Need some help on adjusting the TV cable. Installed a 700RV and TV cable supplied by the vendor.... lost directions....have done a search and found many different ways to do it.....I have a universal type cable

TV cable

If anyone has a picture of the TV setup on your 81, please send...thanks in advance

The TV cable hooks up exactly like the kickdown cable from your TH350C. As a matter of fact, I really felt conned when I bought a TV set up for my 700R4. I used the kickdown cable bracket on the carb instead of taking the carb off to install BTO's bracket. They were the same thing. The only thing the BTO kit gives you is an adjustment cam at the carb where the cable attaches to adjust "shift feel". I didn't see any real effect from adjusting it.
You do have to be sure the cable will pull the plunger all the way out. Check it with the pan off.
Bottom line: I know the kickdown cable and TV cable do different things, but as far as the physical connection from carb to the tranny, they are identical.
God bless, Sensei

Update

Here is the issue..I adjusted the TV cable as per the shop manual.....push in D ring, push accelrator pedal to the floor to automatically adjust the TV cable......everything seems to be fine...shifting into OD at appox 42 miles per hour, noticable drop in RPM to around 1300. I know the cable should kick out of OD when more than 50 percent of travel or WOT....the problem is hesitation.....it will kick out of OD, but after hesitation....sometimes the car will load up and act like it is going to die.......

Update

What I should of done was contact the transmission builder (Fourthgear) at the beginning, :bash...........would of saved me allot of time

Don Marcone (Fourthgear: I highly recommend), talked me thru the "proper" setup of the TV cable of which I have done......weather is to crappie to take it out for a test drive....but feel very confident this will do the trick.....

Could you explain what the difference is between the way Don setup the TV Cable and the way you did it? That way we all know what to look for if we have the same problem in the future :)

response

Sure...did get the car out for two test runs....I am very happy with the performance of the tranny and engine......

Step 1: Loosen slider and center on the bracket. (Lock down)
Step 2: have carb at WOT....pull cable until you get a positive stop. Tighten TV cable nut (or what ever your cable has).

Step 3: Mark TV cable against the TV slider. Push accelerator to WOT...measure cable travel.....1 7/16 is the target. You can adjust the lenght by pushing or pulling the slider...in my case I adjusted the slider back towards the firewall.......bingo......all my problems went away....and I am one happy C3 owner :)
