Has anyone had expereince installing an aftermarket Y pipe to a stock exhaust? Any real advantage without aftermarket muffs?

Not sure what you are asking, there's no Y pipe on a C5. It's a true dual exhaust. If you are referring to the H pipe as compared to an X pipe, that will make a difference in the sound.

I installed Corsa Pace Car (I think it's called the 'Sport' now) without the changing to the X pipe. It has a motorboat "burble" that they say would go away with an X pipe. I kind of like the sound myself.

Toms 01 is correct. Several years ago I installed a B&B Bullet system on my C5 and with the stock H pipe it had quite a gurgle at idle. The X pipe does away with that and it changes the sound. It also does a better job balancing out the cylinder banks and it does improve exhaust flow. It wasn't that difficult to install but if you are going to attempt it get yourself a good chain pipe cutter!
