I am using an Edelbrock RPM intake,Holley 650 double pumper and an edelbrock pro-flo air cleaner on my 383. Would there be an issue with hood clearance? I know it's going to be tight if it does fit. The engine was used in a '69 with a stock hood and the same configuration and it fit in his car. Not sure about the air cleaner. I think he used his stock air cleaner with his though since the 69's ran holley carbs. At least I think they did, right? Don't know if the 69's hoods are the same height as the 73's. I've read other posts with similar questions but not sure if they had same configurations. The engine is about ready to go and I hate these last minute problems. But isn't that the fun of it. NAH !!!!

should fit... as always use some modeling clay and close hood carefully to make sure nothing is hitting before shutting it hard!

I always preferred tin foil. Take a 12" sheet of foil and lightly ball it up to about the size of a tennis ball. Set it on the air cleaner top and set the hood down. Lightly push the hood down until it closes. The foil will collapse better than the clay (IMHO) and give you two flat sides that you can then easily measure to give you your clearance numbers. Don't forget to allow some clearance for engine torquing. (That should be very minimal unless you're powerbraking it.)

Good idea, Andre! :upthumbs

I have a slight mod on that one-I use a bath towel, fold in half, and put a 12" X 12" foil sheet over the top. Then, you can really see the "touch points", and then go from there. If it's close, then don't fold the towel and check again...

If you need an extra inch of clearance, buy an original(repro)LT-1 air cleaner.I got mine from Corvette Central and it gave me another inch over the generic drop base that was on the car.
RodsandRides is that red interior in your targa blue Vette? What an incredibly good looking combo that must be.

Yes-Special Order

Thank you for the compliment. :upthumbs

Yes, that is a Red Vinyl interior (code 407) under that Targa Blue paint (code 979). I have the Tank Sticker and Window Sticker, built June 1972. No way of knowing how many cars with that combination were built, but there sure weren't very many. It is sharp-I like it a lot, and it drives real well. Here's a link to an earlier thread regarding unusual color combinations, which has a couple more photos:

as long as you do something to CHECK :w

didn't do that once a long long time ago... guess thats why i get anal with clay and body putty etc...!

thanks for all the tips.I give one of them a try in the next couple of weeks. I'm hoping to have the car up and running soon. Been without the vette for the whole summer. I could have had it up and running sooner but when you work 6-7 days a week, the last thing you want to do is come home and work some more. Especially when its over 90 outside.
Thanks again.
