I have a 96 coupe with 38000 miles the air blows cold but not thru the upper vents defrost and the regular vents.. it feels like a hose needs to be connected in back of the dash i remember reading some time ago a member had the same problem and said something about a hose connection up and in back of the brake pedal appreciate any advice regarding ......

Common problem. Look under the drivers side of the dash, the a/c controler(computer) is under there. You might have a vacuam line loose. There should be a few connected to it. Also, some have had a line loose under the drivers side fuel rail. Most have probably had to replace the a/c controler. It hard to get to it, not much room. I have been putting off doing this for about 6 months now.

Gary's right - extremely hard to get to. Before you get under the dash be sure to check the vacuum ball (in the space in front of the Left Front Wheel) and any of the vacuum lines you can see. If that is fine then it is probably under the dash. As Gary pointed out it is extremely difficult to get to. I am 6'1 and 220 lbs. I could not squirm my way under the dash so I removed the dash and fixed/replaced some other things while I had the dash out. All in all it took about 6 hours by myself.

I had the same problem a few years back.My mechanic was doing some other work on the car and took one look and told me that it was either a hose that was disconnected or squeezed shut.He took apart the dash and sure enough there was a hose that was squashed shut...;shrug ....Anyhow he fixed it.No problem since. He also told me that maybe it got stuck in there when I had my aftermarket alarm system installed.

I had that problem and was told that the default airflow is feet and windshield, so something in the vacuum system was not working. The shop it was at checked to see if it was something simple (like a hose unplugged or something similar) and all was connected. They bypassed the control module and all the vents worked and as luck would have it, once they reconnected back to the control module, everything works again. :) Lucky for me.

HEY
Very lucky!

I have all the info from the CAC to find it and check. Heck, these guys even told us how to modify and improve the connections..
Just gotta get my lazy arse out there to the garage to do it! hahahaha

Glad yours is back in operation!

On my '94 my cruise control and the heat register vents wouldn't work.

Gordon Killebrew told me to look under the passenger side, plastic Corvette rocker cover and see if the T vacuum valve had a hole in it.
Sure enough it did and once I replaced the T valve, both worked immediately after.
