Air pump eliminator bracket inquiry

I have a 1991 vert, and the air (smog) pump is starting to make some funky noises every once and awhile, leading me to believe it's on its way out. Other than picking up a used one, which sometimes is a crap shoot, I'm thinking of 2 choices; picking up a new one, where I found the best price at gmpartsdirect.com for $180.21 plus shipping, or picking up an eliminator bracket for $169.99 which includes shipping. Any thoughts or experiences with this type of bracket? Here is the E-Bay auction number for reference: 7962533236. Are there any vendors on this site to support that offer a similar type of bracket, or does anyone on the forum have one laying around gathering dust that they would be willing to sell? Any opinions are appreciated, however I am leaning slightly towards the bracket vs. the new pump from GM at this point...................

Thanks, Chris.

Does your state check emissions of cars? If so, your choice may have been made for you.

We don't here which has me leaning toward removing the pump altogether but not doing anything that can't be reversed.

Personally seeing the price difference is minimal, I'd go with the new pump. Takes 30 minutes to change out and keeps all your EGR and emissions intact.

You can also try here, some of the best prices to be found for OEM parts:

Chris May at Superior Chevrolet: http://www.superchevyperformance.com/

Give Chris a call and tell him you're from the forum. ;)

The cat needs the air to function and not clog. I'm not a 'greenie' but try to think globally and do my part locally. The pump takes almost power to run.
:w

could always try a used one too? what went wrong with yours, bearing failed??

The air pump bearings in my -84 started making some noise and it was getting worse every day, so I just removed the pulley and replaced the belt with a shorter one. Very easy fix, no need for any pump eliminator brackets. Will though remove the pump and plumbing when have more time...

either way is fine. the bracket should last longer than a smog pump... you should also check a regular discount auto store. they sell rebuilt pumps that are cheap, and smog pumps don't break that often so rebuilt will probably be just fine.

Is your car a 6-speed? where did you buy it? My dad had the same car, been looking for it to buy back from its current owner;)
