Hi CAC members...
I just noticed a rattle noise and think it's the air pump.I was just woundering if it's starting to fail and would this cause my check engine light to come on.

Tks...Scooter

Yes, if it fails it could cause a "Check Engine" alert. The pump should not be making excessive noise, if it is it's probably heading south. It's an easy change-out though, one thing you have going for you, and it isn't that expensive either.

Yes, if it is rattling get a new one. Mine did just that a month or so ago, got worse over a hundred miles and had to be replaced. I put the new serpentine on at the same time, easy fix at about $150US...

Oops, sorry scooter, didn't notice you were Canuckian too. Cost was $100 for a rebuilt pump with warranty and the belt was about $50. Labour (I was out of town) ran me $50 at a friend's shop.
Then ya got yer PST and yer GST...

Hold on there a minute....

Mine started making noise so I took it apart...inside there are 4 wafer plates that turn in the center and rub the outside walls producing the air. I had seen the same things on an air rachet. So I looked through the yellow pages for a place that fixes air tools and was able to buy 4 new wafer pieces for 5.00 and installed them myself and the unit now works perfect again. Make sure to grease the bearings...and a bit of crocus cloth to the inside surfaces to clean it up helps.

Ok tks gang,I will take mine apart just to see how it works but will most likely p/u a rebuilt one.

Tks again...Scooter
