Question: Alarm wiring

Just wondering, if an original alarm system wasn't hooked up or if there's a short somewhere in the wiring, will it prevent the car from starting? or is that too advance for these cars?

I think they just set off a horn.

I don't believe so,however,
On my '81 the alarm will engage( disable the starter) by using the power door locks....the ONLY way to disarm it is to unhook the battery,and it resets itself
