is the ground on the aldl port constant? i am having problems with my computer(loose connection somewhere) and was curious if this was a ground for the computer.

You need to pose this question of either Ken or Vigman....

I am pretty certain the ALDL Ground is constant..

WHat scanning software are you using?

I use EASE and they had that very same problem with one version

Sorry, just now saw this thread. Judging from the wiring schematic, the ALDL, port "A" appears to be a constant ground to the engine block. ;)

_ken :w

Ground is ground

UNLESS

the actual ground lug is cooroded!

Vig!

thank-you all for the replies, i am/was having trouble with the check engine light staying on and when i would check for codes nothing would happen-the light doesn't flash. i was suspect of the port but didn't want to fry anything until i knew. today (1-5-03) i discovered the smaller connector on the computer has a bad connection, and when moved the light goes out but the engine runs rough. any tips? i bought the car with the light on so i don't really know how long this situation has been going on. thanks again and hope to hear something soon.
thanks, danny

Check all your connectors as if one causes a problem...there may be more. Also check your grounds...when in doubt ask Vigman for the locations. Then disconnect the negative battery cable for about 5 minutes. Then reconnect and go for a drive, make sure you get engine and oil up to temp....then see if you get the light and what codes may appear. Need any more help ...just ask...Good Luck

thanks, i just came in from checking the connection. i ran the engine for a short time and drove around the block, doesn't run too good but the light stayed off. i tried to check the codes and only got a code 12. go figure.

Time to pop the hood and check everything...all connections, vac lines, pcv, injector connectors....etc. When was the last time you ran any injector cleaner into it? Mine started running a bit rough...I went a put a bottle of Lucas Brand injector cleaner and by the second tankfull she ran better then ever. Now I throw some in once every 2 mos for the heck of it.

If that connector on the scanner/pc is d.o.a. You may want to borrow a buddy's scanner to get some consistency with troubleshooting. That thing will drive you bananas the way it is right now.

it's not the connector on the scanner it's the connector on the car's computer. i tried to check why the check engine light was on and the light never went out-not blink or anything. while driving down the road i would hit some bumps(unintentional) and the light would go out leaving me with the impression that maybe the ground or some wire was loose/bad. i noticed the car had an alarm system before and now it does not. i am not sure of what may have been disconnected when the alarm was removed, at least they did not take the l.e.d. out leaving a hole. also while the check engine light is on the cooling fan is on and when i get a good connection and the light is out the fan is off but the engine runs rougher. i will take this info you have given me and attempt to correct these problems. also when i check for codes(good connection) all i get is a code 12. this is driving me nucking futs, anyway thanks again
