Allow SO or spouse to drive your vette alone?

When I was seriously looking for a Vette the two things that I knew for sure I wanted a 6-speed and a C-5. Now a lot of people think I bought a 6-speed so my wife couldn't drive it but I bought a 6-speed because that is what I wanted; it just so happens that she can't drive it either and does not even care to learn. In fact she really doesn't enjoy even riding in it that much, it sets so low and she doesn't feel safe in it and she says she can't see anything. So basicly this is not a problem in our world. My wife just barely has an automatic figured out :L I would hate to even think about her learning to drive a 6-speed manual, she's happy with that and I am thrilled beyond words. Just some of the things that make a marriage work, you know what they say; opposites do attract ;LOL but who are they right? I guess the bottom line with my wife is a car is a car to her, she is not a Vette lover and knows it is my get away, my prozac so to speak.....

Don't Forget The Wave

NO

Oh I forgot, DON'T LET YOUR BOY FRIEND DRIVE IT BY HIM SELF, maybe not even with you. Now having said this I would feel a little differant if I was the boy friend I'm sure :L Tell him to buy one and see if he lets you drive it;LOL

my wife has her own vet....2003 ZO6 daily driver.
over the years we have had many vets...then no vets and lots of kids....now no kids and back to driving a vet.
puts a smile on her face......a good thing.
yes I drive it but I let her know FIRST.

Hello,

Do you allow your spouse or significant other to drive your vette alone?

I have been a Corvette lover since the age of 2. Really!!!!!! I owned a 93 that I had to share. When I became single, I purchased my current 2000 coupe. My current boyfriend helped me check the vehicle out. We live together and I contribute financially. I have let him drive the vette 3 times and I am in the car. I have been vocal about it being my car and he has his own Monte Carlo. He likes vettes but his taste is more for 78 Silver Anniversary. I have had somewhat heated discussions about not allowing him to drive my car alone. His family jokes repeatedly with me about not letting him drive by himself. Everyone wants to drive it. I enjoy driving the vette. Please give me feedback and what other owners do.

back in the 50s and 60s the mrs not only drove my corvettes she autocrossed, drag raced, dirt tracked and ran road race courses with our corvettes. she does not like to drive my new ones for some reason, most likely she is afraid she will scratch it. :D

Not only do I let my wife drive our 99 6 speed Coupe, I let her drive my 63 4spd (which we still have) before we were married 23 years ago. She is a safer driver than I am and yes, they are only cars. I can remember her thinking that the guys were looking at her, not the 63 Roadster, LOL. When I was shopping for the C5, I agonized about whether I was going to get an automatic or a 6 speed, because I wanted to be sure she would drive it. In the end, I couldn't bear buying an auto - it would be too much like kissing your sister! I made sure the 99 had sport power seats and telescope steering so that she could see out of it. It worked out as she will drive it occasionally (she is afraid "something will happen" in spite of my assurances that I trust her). She also drives my stick shift drew cab dualley and I get to drive her supercharged Impala SS. As far as others driving my cars, only my mechanic.

Haven't read the entire thread so this has probably already been said but, it is your car ~ you decide.

My wife can drive mine anytime she chooses, but she says she doesn't want to until I break it. :L Once upon a time, we both had one and routienly drove each others, but being married is a little different than your situation. In the former, there is generally a common insurance. If your b'friend breaks your car, whose insurance will cover it and who will suffer the ensuing increases in coverage.

Guess I'm kinda hard line...if driving your car is that big of a deal to him, I'd tell him to pound sand. But that's just me. ;shrug

I will have to side with IH2LOSE

My wife does not drive mine as she cannot drive anything with a manual transmission, even if it was an automatic, I doubt she would drive it, she does not like to drive, only drives around a range of a few miles from home, will not drive any Interstate or other major roads.

But, if she could I would let here.

Now back to this,

"I will have to side with IH2LOSE"

I would probably let a woman drive it before a man, not to say that some women don't hot rod, it just seems to me they tend to respect others property a bit better. This is just my opinion though, and to watch out for the board filters, I will close with this, "opinions are like (...), everybody has one.":L

yea, let her drive it once. She scraped the curb at Sonic goin thru the drive thru...
Yea, the HRE 547 wheels. Scuffed one up. just was not used to the car and couldn't judge the distance. (i had told her not to pull up to the push button ordering stations as the nose would hit the curb stop before she got to the button)

No biggie - just another call to Wheel Masters for a repair.

Not not only does my wife drive my car, My daughters have driven every Corvette I have ever owned ranging from a 65, a 78, an 87 and my recently acquired 03.
You should hear the two girls talk about the looks they get.

I personally like blonds in yellow Corvettes, just looks right:cool

No, She doesn't dirve the Vette. She doesn't do clutches so no drama! Of course, if she really wanted to, I'd teach her. If she wrecked it, I'd just buy another (can you say 2006 Z06!). Even though it is a Vette, it is still a car!
