Howzit C-4/5 spec.!!! I have, what I call, never ending questions for you. This weeks question is actually 2 ques. one from a buddy of mine which also involves myself, and my question that also involves my self:duh O.K 1st ques. is, my buddy and I are going to do a rim switcheroo, he's buying a set of Y2K rims to put on his 99' vette, and his stock rims from that same car are going on my 91' vette next saturday morning. The ques. is, will the lugs off my car fit on his? reason is that, the lug caps need to go on a screw on lug nut we was told, and mine being a screw on cap lug nut, we thought that we'd just swap lug nuts with one another, will we run into any problems? We're hopeing that we can find out soon, so if he needs to, he can buy a set before the rim swap. 2nd ques. is, if I were to gut the precats on my stock 91' L-98, will I lose way to much low end because of not enough back pressure? I already guted the center cat and have no mufflers on the car, and no, we don't have any smog restrictions over here in Hawaii , also I have the Ed wright chip, and the usual mods every body else has. My gearing (right now untill a few months) is the 2.59 gear ratio, but plan on putting in the 3.07's in, in a couple of months, I have a fully ported plenum on it's way here as I'm wrighting you, along with and ported intake, I already have on the siamiese runners on, and thats all I plan on doing to the car for a long while. The reason for wanting to gut the precats is for sound only, I like to hear my engines run while I'm driving the car, I like the V.8 sound... that deep throaty sound, thats reason. Mahalo again for your patiants and time.

Hi there,
First, the lugs should swap out if my memory serves correctly.
As for the cats, I might suggest a different course of action, just install the 2nd cat, and leave the precats off.
Walker exhaust make a EPA replacement converter system, which alot less restrictive, and works very well.
It will come with the ypipe, and the second cat, in 2 pieces.
If you are street driven, you should have cats.
Also, if you are going with 3.07, make sure your PCM signal is correct, so that you do NOT have a speedo issue.

this is off topice but...
I would just like to say thank you for someone else being in favor of keeping the emissions equipment on their car. I see and read about alot of folks, vettes and otherwise, ripping the cats off their vehicles. I am simply of the opinion that if you can't make clean power you shouldn't be doing it at all. I also believe that cleaner cars would keep the tree-huggers off the hotrodder's backs and give them more time to concentrate on the real sources of pollution. I haven't noticed anyone else say anything about keeping their smog stuff. I know a properly tuned engine runs fairy clean, but the emissions equip. can always make it better. Anyway, thanks for your comment.

So C-4/5 spec. what is the best way that I can get the sound, keep the power, and most important, keep it clean, with less restriction? Would your reply that you had made to my question still be the same, now that I've asked this question?

HI there,
Yes, my response still holds, and I would say that Walker would be your best bet. I dont know if you can reference this number in Hawaii, however, it is 15622 for the converter and the Y pipe. List here is $289
This also follows along the same operational characteristic as the EGR system.
Most feel EGR causes a power loss, however, with a correctly functioning EGR, your chamber temps for your burning of your fuel mixture drop, causing a decrease in oxides of nitrogen, which is a smog producing gas. The performance benefit to this, is the fact that knock retard is alot less, as there is no knock due to correct burning of the fuel. This, in turn, creates more power.
So, with that said, give it a shot, and let us know.
