Anybody ever have this issue?

about a month after buying my 1980 I had to put a new Alt belt on the car because the one it had, was way too loose. Now a month later it seems that belt has stretched out and has become too loose, to where it is effecting the alt charging the Battery. And yes I have adjusted the alt to where the belt should be tight, to where there is no more adjustment left.

What the heck would cause just this one belt to stretch? the other two belts were replaced at the sametime last month and they are fine.

are your pulleys in alignment????
if you look at them from the drivers side of the vette do they look like the are in a straight line????

Get a slightly smaller belt (1 inch should be fine) which will give you the extra room you need for adjustment. Check the arm that holds the alternator too. mine came loose on the 75 and caused a loose belt.

LOL well I was off base this time, I just assumed that it had loosened up again, about two weeks ago I had to tighten it up. so I did not think about it too much was planning on getting new belt this morn. opened the hood this morn and found a shredded belt in corner of engine compartment.

Well I got the belt changed out, alignment of the pulleys are right on. The Auto parts store replaced the belt for free since belt had 1 year warrenty. So I will keep close eye on the belt. I also had to tighten up some of my Header bolts while I was in there turning wrenches. LOL a few were loose. But they are tight now.

Nice sunny day today so Took the T-Tops off, and going to see my youngest daughter over in IL, about 70 miles from here. So I will check in tomorrow night when I get back home.

Thanks Guys for all the help, I am sure I will be asking more questions as I go on. As this is my first Vette, and I am no mechanic, but I can do simple wrench turning duties. LMAO
