can someone tell me what the capacitor is for on the ammeter and how does it work.
 
It keeps the radio from making unwanted noise by "smoothing" out voltage spikes. The "ammeter" in your car is actually a galvanometer that is reading the difference between two voltages. Before trying to imply a correct amperage reading from one, you have to realize C60 (A-C) cars with 63amp alternators have 40amp guages.
