Howdy Ho everyone! I just purchased my first Corvette, a '92 Coupe, 125,000 miles on it. I purchased it to use a daily driver when the white stuff isn't on the ground. Some of you may have seen it on Evil-bay. Black Rose metallic with a cracked roof panel and a tick in the engine. Anyhow I dollied it home from PA to Indy with the halfshafts removed so as not to damage the driveline. I had to put a new battery in it first thing but I cant get it to fire. I am waiting on my service manual to get here before really delving into it but was curious about a sensor that is broken/disconnected on the front of the engine. It appears to screw into the left side of the water pump facing forward. I suspect it is just a temp sensor but wanted to make sure it isn't something more serious that would prevent starting. The no start issue isn't a security system issue as the engine cranks over but being new to these beasties I may be wrong. The previous owner assures me that it does run and drive and I have no reason to not believe him, and no I didn't test drive it, just loaded it and tried to outrun the pending snowstorm. The basic question; is the sensor I described a temp sensor or something else that would affect the starting of this beast? Thanks, FM Indy

It sounds like the water temp. sender the ECM (computer) uses for the correct amount of fuel enrichment. It should be in the intake manifold, right below the thermostat housing.

Its wire & plug should be close by.

Temp Sensor

Hey, I can help out on this one !!...

It is most definitely the temp sensor and I can tell you from experience that if it's broke your car will crank a LOOOOOOONG time before starting if it does start. You may have other issues as well if it won't start at all after cranking a while though. I just broke (and replaced) mine about a month ago.

Welcome to CAC.

good luck with it

Welcome to the forum, MURPH. :w

Thanks for the quick info everyone. I'll try to avoid such basic questions in the future. I didn't want to wait for my service manual to arrive. I'll head down this morning and get the new sensor. I didn't let it crank very long though, with modern fuel injection and such I knew I should have had some kind of response almost immediately. Thanks All. FM Indy
