I went to a cruise-in this weekend and talked to some fellow Vette owners about a couple issues I have with my 99. One of which is the airconditioning blowing hot air on the drivers side and cold on the passengers. They told me I would need to get a new head unit/ face plate for the air conditioning. So, I am about to buy one but wondered how I get the center counsel out to remove it. Is there a post somewhere in here that shows a DIY? I did a search and couldn't find anything.

Thanks in advance!
Mike

This is a write up on how to do another mod but getting to the HVAC is all the same. Here

This is not my write up but I have used most of the LED ones he has.

Read through this thread I started when I was having the same problem, except it was cold driver side and hot passenger side. My problem turned out to be a cracked gear in one of the actuators.

I had recently replaced the head unit but only because I couldn't see the face of it any longer. Regardless, in my case, at least, the head unit was NOT the problem.

Talking with the same person at the cruise-in, they had replaced the actuators, and still had no luck fixing the problem. The only thing they had left was the head unit, so I assumed I needed one as well.

Sent you a PM, Mike.

I don't know what to tell you, except my problem occurred after I had replaced my head unit with a new one and when Chris pulled the actuator, there was a visible crack in the plastic gear.

Well, got some good news today and a guess a bit of luck after all the talk on the forums about the head unit and actuators. I dis-connected my battery so I could put a brass gear in the drivers side headlight. And low and behold, when I got everything done and the battery connected back up, I had air again!!! Cold on the drivers side and passengers side. Thanks alot for all the help. On to the next thing to do.

Well, spoke to soon! Now drviers is cold and passengers is adjustable. So, beacuse the drivers was hot, and passengers was cold when I got it. And after the battery diconnect the drivers is cold and passengers is hot. Does that sound like the head unit or actuators?

I just went out and pulled the codes, after I posted this but.... They had:
B0361 Left Actuator Feedback Short GRND
B0363 Left Actuator Feedback Open
B0367 Right Actuator Feedback Open
So, I assume the actuators need to be replaced? Is there somewhere you guys get these, or are they a dealer item?

Thanks again

If I had to guess it still sounds like a grounding issue.

Mike, here's another active thread by a member who got the same code you did - at least one of them.

Watch that thread for more info because our resident c4c5specialist, Paul, is an excellent mechanical resource for our Vettes.

Ok, its official, I bought Christine. This car has a mind of its own and wants the heat and or air on when it wants! Decided to drive it today and it alowed me to turn the heat on, so now that its getting cooler, I'm gonna leave it alone and see what it does next summer! Thanks again for all the help. Even with the little things, I can still say I LOVE THIS Car. I have been missing out without one for as long as I have.
