Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

Anyone around? In desperate need of help.

Car is totally dead. I hate my dealer but must go in the morning. Maybe someone had a similar problem and can help me help my dealer.

Thankyou. 2002 coupe didn't start no power at all. Daily driver so I don't think it's the battery. Jump started and all kinds of codes came up. AC starts by itself, service column lock, service vehicle, ABS light on Traction control light. Finnally got home, shut down tried to start again, nothing. Relay in passenger foot well buzzing like crazy. Much more to explain. any possilbility to chat on a phone? I'll give my number, call collect or I'll call you. Vacation starts Sat. this is screwing up everything

My money is on the battery. Had a similar experience with the 99. The wife drove it to work and had to make a stop on the way. Started fine in the morning and the drive in was 30 mins. Walked out after a quick 5 minute stop and it was totally dead. Electronics going haywire just as you describe, my CD changer was doing all kinds of stupid crap. I tried jumping it but for some reason these electronic systems didn't like being jumped at all. The surprising thing is that there was absolutely no warning that battery was going.

A new battery fixed it right up and she fired right up.

A battery that's less than 2 years old? No lights at all in the car??? Can't even lock the doors. Way too strange. Last night the AC went off on it's own a couple of times but then was fine. This morning no problems at all. after work, zip Nada.

Hard to believe it would go after two years, but this is the only time I've seen my car act this stupid. Try a new battery in the morning and see if it isn't fixed. The only difference is that my car was DEAD. No bringing it back, even with a jump attempt. Good news is that GM would prorate the battery to help a bit? I just purchased a Walmart battery and all is good.

Anyone you know that has a C5 you could borrow the battery from to see it that fixes it? My neighbor also has a '99 FRC and his battery was only 2 weeks old when mine went. We just pulled his from his car and drove down to see if that was indeed the problem. She fired up and I drove it home. Stopped by Walmart on the way and purchased the same battery to put back into his car.

Good luck.

Yea, wal mart will take the battery back if its not the problem -

I had a Pewter 99 also. When the battery went dead I was able to jump start. No strange stuff though. This is like the cars need an exorcism. Very hard to jump tonight. Needed a truck to do it and heavy cables. I'm a bit of a trouble shooter and never believed in just replacing parts hoping for a fix. I'm very bummed. Can bearly type. Sleep? forgedaboudit!!!!!

Hey Rain. Always wanted to say hi. I like your style. I feel like an outsider on the forum at times. Maybe because I didn't properly introduce myself, but I'm always on the site learning and occasionally trying to help. Used to be stationed at Biloxi. 1976.
USAF It's very different down there now from what I hear. One day a visit may be in order. Ever been to NYC?

Hey -
Thanks for the kind words! And sorry to hear about the stress your nearly new vette is giving you. Mine didnt start spurting codes when the factory battery finally went south last fall after 7 years. But I did get the flashing SYS code after I boosted it.
Grabbed a yellow top from Wal Mart and its been great ever since.

OHyes, Keesler AFB of Biloxi, MS.
Things have REALLY changed since you were here in 1976! I was living in Natchez, MS at the time. I run into lots of folks who were either stationed here OR their parents were and they attended the Biloxi school system.

The old McDonald's just outside the West gate of Keesler AFB is still there and looks the same as it did back in the 70s. Beyond that, its all changed! haha

This place (the CAC) is like a 2nd or 3rd home to me. Being a new dad and a working musician doesn't leave much time for driving the vette or surfing the web, but I certainly take the time when its presented! Great folks here and many people who actually have opinions. I love it!

Nope, never been to NY. My ex drummer was from Syracuse but I never made a trip up that way. Think the closest ever, was a trip in 1985 with the boy scouts to fort AP hill, VA for the national jamboree. That was a blur since a hurricane hit us right in the middle of the scout event!

Gotta get yourself back down this way sometime -
We just had Vettes by the Shore and have Cruisin the Coast coming up this Fall.
Two great car shows during nice times of the year here on the MS Gulf Coast.

Nice meeting you and thanks again for the :D smile

I have some friends in the recording industry up here and a few club owners. Friends sister is the producer of the Sharon Osbourne show and many of those blind date, elimadate type shows. Go to www.jugsandstrokers.com and see some of my buds partying with Indian Larry and Billy Zane from the chopper build off shows. Good dudes. Southern Cross a local band is a favorite. Congrats on the new baby. Thanks for the ear. Peace

Did you get her running? What have you been using under the hood as a cleaner?Things like simple green promote corrosion in electrical systems.Got to be careful as this can get to be fun

Never sprayed anything on the engine. I know better than that. I got to wait till the morning to do anything. I really do hope it's the battery, but my biggest fear is the local dealer. Bought my first Vette there but not the 2nd because they were raping me on the deal. I still use them for oil changes because their 2 blocks from the house, but I feel they have it out for me after I complained about them putting 75lbs. of air pressure in the tire after a flat repair not to mention not balancing the wheel. Sucks not being able to trust anyone with my baby.

Correct me if I am wrong but wasnt there a problem with batteries on the earleyer C5's and leaking acid onto the computer ? Go look under the hood to see if there is any corostion under the battery

Still not up and running?Glad you havent sprayed the eng, lots of folks do. Sorry to hear about your dealer probs. The gm"s I own now will most likely be my last due to the "customer service".My Dad is retired and oldest son works for them and they dont care about customers etc. Thay want me to by new Fords and beat the crap out of them.Ok,I will!I guess try a batt and see what happends.I know what you mean about not trusting them with your baby.I feel that all dealers SUCK,except when their lieing and telling that your warrenty,(GMPP)is useless.

I believe the leaking battery problem was before 2002, but I did look anyway. No evidence of any leaks. I can't even retrieve the codes because of no power. I almost forced to do the dealer thing because it's still under warranty. I just don't want to be without the car all weekend and next week I' supposed to head up to Lake George for a little RnR. I guess if the dealer fails me tomorrow I'll spend the $100 or so and take the chance on the battery. Is it the Red top or Yellow top everyone seems to choose?

One bit of good news. Caddy Shack just started on TBS. Maybe that will cheer me up.
Ha
