It is on the floor pan drivers side....just a angled plate with a hole????

Ideas? John Z?

My AIM is wrapped under the tree....:s

Bracket is 2 fold, 1) it has nuts for the gas pedel screws, 2) it is a mounting point for a triangular shaped sheet metal shield that also attaches to the frame, most often called an inner splash shield. it also should have a similar bracket on the other side.

ok....I see know.....pulled out the LIC catalog.....I have only one bracket...the one shown. Nothing on the other side.....and no apparent holes to bolt one on to the floor pan??
Dammit!.....Keep finding little things that prior owners left off...tossed....etc.
thanks!

Sam

By the way, Sam, there should also be a similar splash shield in the same respective location on the passenger side of the car. You may want to see if it's there, also.

Those are the outers....
I see where they (inner shields) attach to the frame and to the bracket.......how is the braket attached to the floor pan? the drivers side is bolted.......should the passenger side be bolted also?.......there are no apparent holes.

thanks?

The bracket on the driver's side should be riveted to the fiberglass. I believe the bolts you see should be the accelerator pedal bolts. Removing the accelerator pedal should not allow the bracket to fall if it is properly riveted in place. Not sure without looking at an AIM or my car whether there is a bracket on the passenger side, or if the shield mounts only to the frame.

Not sure what you mean by inner shields, and the shields on e-bay being "outer" . . . To my knowledge, there is only one shield in place on each side of the car, I had a suprising experience with a '63 in '67 when driving in snow/slush with the driver's side shield removed. Got enough ice pack in place to jam the cross shaft on the clutch, a little unnerving.

Hope this is some help, your AIM previously under the tree should also be of some assistance!

Ron just to help man. The inner shield goes from that bracket forward inboard of the frame. The other shield is outboard of the frame and connects to the inner fender well and the fiberglass just below the vents.... Sam if you can get the dimensions of those inner shields it might be cheaper to cut them out yourself than paying the 30 bucks a piece for em... Dave..

Thanks, right! Been so long since I've looked under mine . . .

I just ordered the LH and RH shields along with the bolts and new brackets......no mention of rivets......checked my AIM and have not found the method of attachment....yet.....anyone know what page to check?

Sam, if you don't find out before then, I'll look at mine later this pm.

back in those days we remove those shields because they got hot and transferred the heat tru the floor.

Motorman I always wondered why almost none of the midyears I've looked at have had those inner shields. It makes some sense now though that the shields would act like insulators and trap heat and heat up themselves.. HMMM do I really want to put those back on now. I just figured along with spark plug shielding it was just in the way at one time or another and was removed and never put back....Dave..

Both driver and passenger side brackets for the inner shields are riveted to the floor - in the '67 A.I.M., they're shown in UPC1 Bolt/Weld, Sheet B2, items 8 and 9.

thanks John......looks like I need to look over your riveting (no pun intended) article!
