Well here I am again; and I may stand to be corrected. After carefully review of gmjunkie's post I did look again and I do not have this extra spring loaded cover on the ash tray but after carefully investigating the ash tray after removing once again I spotted two small holes on the side at the top that could have been for this small door. It has never been there since I've had it but appears there may have been something there at one time. I also am not sure it makes much since but I may want one NOW!!! ;LOL
Thanks gmjunkie I am sure glad you cleared this up, like they say pictures are worth a thousand words & :beer You da Man :thumb 'Sure glad this got cleared up I thought I was going nuts or nuttser if that is a word :L

Whew already, and uncle or ok maybe I was wrong, at least it appears that way :chuckle Now how do I get one of these?

Bill :w

:ohnoes:ohnoes:ohnoes:ohnoes:ohnoesI am in the same boat Bill:bash:bash:bash

I've only had my 2004 for two days now, so I have no idea about the great ash tray controversy, but I now have something I must check out! When I open the larger door, the ashtray is in plain sight with nothing seeming to cover it. So am I in the same boat hoosierdaddy and Scottnoxid or is there really a smaller lid that stays open but I have not seen it yet? Mystery to be solved after work! :W

Thanks for the pics Junkman...I was getting really confused about the lid to the inner lid of the outer compartment to the console lid. :confused Now I know what to look for. :thumb

Good instructions and I will remember this if in fact I find one of these some place. Again I did not know there was a seperate lid for the ash tray, now I got to have one. It is a good place to keep change maybe.

Thanks,
Bill :w

If you remove the ash tray you will see it right away, mine must have fallen off before I ever got the car, the spring clips are more than likely lossed in action in the center console some where, I am going to try and just buy the ash tray; or the lid but I would think it comes with the new ash tray, at anyrate I will check this out.

Thanks,
Bill

GM part # 10247681
Lists for $27.56
If you have a good GM parts man,He ott'a let you have it for about $22.00
:thumb:thumb:thumb

Yep, mine does the same thing.

And like gm says, it's supposed to be that way.

All I can think of is that it was designed that way. The small door actually will snuff out any lit cigarettes that are left in the ashtray. If you only had the larger door it would allow the cigarette to continue burning.

Good photos Junk. They are so good that they show the dust/lint on your console. ;LOL

I don't have that problem,Mine won't fit in that little box!!:thumb

Brought back memories of high school in the late 70s! :guitar:

Oh memories, some great, some good, some not so good, some actually pretty bad and some I would like to FORGET ;LOL But then again I have been through the sixties, seventies, eighties, nineties, and now the 0000, give me another 100 years and then I would have some stories to tell :boogie But gmjunkie that is the biggest one I've ever seen or saw left or right ;shrug

Back in the day Junk, we used to call those "doobies". :thumb

I have no knowlege of this Senator!

Other termnolgy that I had heard were used was reefer, joint and hooter, not to be confused with the place that sells hamburgers and hot wings ;LOL

These are just some of the things I heard; I have no personal experience with these descriptive types of references to this illegal substances referenced or not ;shrug

Yea, I think Bigfoot owned my Vette before me. :L

As a follow up, not that it matters much now, yes, I do have an inner lid on the ashtray that stays open when the outer lid is open....ta da! I feel so much better now!

Oh yeah, I heard that some folks called those "numbers" as well back in the day. I cannot verify if that is true or not. :ugh

C5 Console door....

Since this thread is open, should the center console door only open about 3 inches? I don't want to force the hinges if they're just misadjusted but it seems like the door should open further than this. As it is, I can barely get my hand into the console.

This is for an '03 FRC.

No, your hinges are jacked up.

That door is an overly complex design!! The way it works is that when the Brake handle is up, it gets in the way of fully opening. They resolved the issue by making the hinge angle both normally and upward. go figure?
SO when you open it, you must also lift the hinge side straight up for more clearance. The links are a tight fit and by now need a tiny bit of light oil to make it a bit easier.

Well said, it's actually kind of ingenious though, considering the limitations with the park brake lever. I only wish GM would have spent as much money on their electronics.
