ASR Question

I just took ownership of a 1992 Coupe. I noticed that the ASR not active light does not light up on the information center when it is turned off. The system is functioning as I took the car to a safe place and tested it. Is this a big deal to get this light fixed? I appreciate any thoughts or help.

Let's see if I can remember what I see on my '92.
When ASR kicks in, I see a light on the DIC that says "ASR Active". If I turn ASR off (switch above the head light switch), I see a different light on the DIC that says "ASR OFF".

With ASR off, I can seriously burn the tires. With ASR on, it leaves about 5 feet of rubber before ASR can take control and make it stop.

In routine driving, I can feel the throttle pedal push up against my foot when ASR kicks in and I usually notice the ASR Active light if I'm not too busy otherwise.

Okay, did I get it right?

Then is seems that you have a bad bulb behind the "ASR OFF" part of the DIC. I've never replaced any of the bulbs in the DIC so I can't help you there.

Generally, I like to know when I've turned it off. Since ASR is always active - unless you turn it off - you should be able to remember whether you punched the button or not. Just remember to punch it back on after you've dusted that Mustang.

If you can't remember, just do a quick shutdown and restart - ASR is reset to ON.

Thank you for your help. I am not sure if I can only replace one bulb or if the whole module has to be replaced or sent to a special repair shop to be fixed. Any idea? Thanks again.

The bulbs can be replaced. You need to remove the shifter console cover and work your way up removing the panels. Then remove the DIC module which contains all the bulbs. It sounds way harder than it really is. It's a 20 minute job.
