ASR / Tranny problems

I need some help regarding a few issues that happened during a long road trip I took in my 1994 automatic, last fall.

The ASR light constantly stays on and does not currently work right now.
My drop down gear won't work, when I step on the gas.

Another issue that may or may not be related is a clicking noise coming from my A/C unit, causing the SYS to flash.
I disconnected the A/C and the SYS is not flashing anymore.

Any ideas what my problems may be?

Welcome To The Corvette Action Center Cruise!

I wish I could help you Cruise, but my '87 didn't come equipped with ASR and my knowledge of it is limited, so I'll defer until someone with more expetise comes along, rather than risk inserting something that could be mis-leading.

I just wanted to welcome you to our community. :upthumbs

Carlisle Pennsylvania speaker

Thanks for the welcome.
There looks like some interesting comments throughout the pages. Hopefully I will be able to pick up a few pointers.

My wife and I were at the Corvette Carlisle show in 2000 and there was a very informative guest speaker on C4's.
I think his name was Gord and he was an engineer at GM.
I believe he had his own web page or publishings and if anyone knows how to contact him, it would be appreciated.

I think you are referring to Gordon Killebrew, former Corvette factory service technician for thirty years. :upthumbs

He has a telephone service (1-800-F-Y-VETTE {398-3883}) but no web site. His phone fee is ten dollars per call, plus three dollars per minute. He accepts credit cards.

He also has a school for C4 owners that want to get in touch with the workings and troubleshooting C4s. He has three courses; 1984-89, 1990-96 and 1990-95 ZR-1. Call the number above for schedules and fee information.

Greetings Cruise

If your ALDL connector looks like this, you can proceed,If not ( more pins than this) STOP!

This is for ODB style 1

F E D C B A
G H J K L M

I think 94 was the first year of ODB 2

But..My Actron scanner states it will check up to a 95.. which I have not done personally

( Made the same mistake with another post )

If your looks like the above..proceed

You can pole the CCM and get the error codes for the ASR system

TURN OFF KEY..FIND ALDL CONNECTOR
(UNDER DASH LOWER THAN YOU KNEE WOULD BE)

To read the CCM
Make sure the ASR light is OFF before doing this
Key Off
Have pen & paper ready
Jump pins a & g in tha ALDL connector paperclip will do
(Top left A bottom right G)
turn key on
This will start the Auto diag of the CCM
The numbers where the speedo lives will give you codes eg C 51 or H 51
(the C means current H means History)
and below there will be another number
( eg 1.1, 2.1 etc)
These will tell you the MODULE at fault.
9.0 is the one of interest I believe.
Write this info down
Repeat as needed
To exit
Key off
Remove the jumper
DTC 21-83 are the ones of interest

Post this info..
Mike

OH BY THE WAY!
This is a very complex system..it will take some dialouge to sus this out!
and the parts ARE NOT CHEAP!

I believe that somes 95's had a certain number of OBDII parameters that were being used for testing prior to compliance. I know my 95 does.
96 was the compliance year for OBDII.

I've never seen one. I'm just assuming 16.

Anyone know for sure?

Drop down gear

Thanks for Gord's full name and address.
I will call him if it comes to that.

I received the steps on the ASR issues and I will tackle it next weekend when a mechanic friend is coming for a visit.

Referring to the first post I wrote, do you think the drop down gear and SYS A/C clicking noise could be also be related to the ASR issue?

CALL ME 5.00 per call

60 cents per minute LOL

The AC thing is not related to your ASR thing, but the kickdown might be!
