I should have asked this before but...I just bought the Assemby Manual on Ebay for $20, is the manual worth it? I do most of my repairs. Also is there something better out there?

The GM Shop Manual is the perfect companion to the Assembly Manual ;)

The assembly manual is great once you figure it out:confused which is something I'm still working on:hb

The Factory Service Manual and the Assembly Manual are the two must have books.

The Assembly Manual...

...has saved our bacon several times!

I find it especially helpful when tearing into compontents, and then needing to figure out how it all goes back together.

Kenny and I used the AM this past weekend for the vaccum hoses in regards to the heater controls and also for re-installing all of the pieces we took off to get to the heater core.

Invaluable.

Thanks All for your input...I made the right choice! Took the tops off for the first time Sunday...way coool! Can't wait for the spring:cool

I have the Mid America assembly manual, and I also paid for the detail index for it. It has been very helpful. I had to figure how the pages work and get used to the next page being upside down.

I have mixed feelings about the part numbers in it. It has all the part numbers, but these are as they appeared at the time of the vette year (in my case , 1981), so quite often I go to the dealer only to find the part discontinued or no longer in the data base.

I found a lot of "wrong" stuff in my car using the assembly manual as reference. A lot of the odd vacuum line and wiring issues were a lot easier to figure out with the assembly manual. Finding the dopey bolt that holds the emergency brake console on that's hidden under the glove box bottom was also a real treat. Good thing I had the book, I'd still be pulling on it!

Also, get the factory service manuals (as in plural- two). Don't pay the long bucks ($130. for just the service manual) that most of the corvette "resto" places want. I found a GOOD condition Chevy service manual and a chassis overhaul manual for a whopping $40. at spring Carslile last year. Best bucks I ever spent! Go to local car shows with swap meets- they're there.
