Hello

I am trying to authenticate the vin tag on a car that I'm looking at buying. The 64 cars have spot welded vin tags, but I'm unsure about the way the weld should look. Many vin tag spot-welds look as if they have been removed, and re-spotted, with big lumpy craters and holes (judging from photos that I have seen). This tag is pristine and attached with a nice clean welded dimple, but with evidence of some grinding behind it? was this grinding done in the factory? Any help would be appreciated!

Run a car fax on it or have the police run the vin # if you think there is some fraud involved with the vin tag.. I sure would hatr to pick up a tagged Vette....

The Originals I've seen are exactly like the one you describe!!:thumb:thumb:thumb

I have lots of images of '63-'64 welded VIN plates, and they run the gamut from one pair of neat, small spot-welds to ugly multiple-hit welds; the Z-bar was typically hit with a grinder first to make a bare-metal surface for the resistance weld to "take". :thumb
