auto to manual conversion needs????

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am in the process of trying to get a parts list for items I will need to complete a auto to manual conversion on my 72/76.

I will most probably buy a 98 ls1 from a camaro, along with a t56 transmission also from a camaro(94).

With this setup what extra parts am I going to need?

I have read the topic posted by 69myway on a 4 speed and I wanted to know if the parts would be different?

I already picked up a set of manual pedals, and would like to go with a hydraulic system.

I don't mind cutting the tunnel etc.

I would greatly appreiciate any lists, or advice. thanks.

I heard...but I'm Not sure...that a Richmond 6 speed bolts right (better then a T56) in with little mods...of course you need more then just the tranny.

FYI

There are not LS1 engine mount adapter plates so that in can be bolted in place of an SBC.

Its in the issue of Hot-Rod magazine.

they still have not sent me a price on those moter mount adapters, they look real nice though.

I still need a list of things I will need for the conversion, I will have a ls1 with a t-56 trans.

I should be able to use the Quatermaster hydraulic system, but will everything come with this system? Where can I find it through?

What other parts should I start looking for , I got the pedal assembly already.

Please help
 
I would figure you could use all the hydraulics from the donor car for the clutch.

What about the PCM? Painless sells aftermarket PCMs for LS1's.

Who makes headers for these engines for installation in C3's?
 
my donor is a auto also, I'm trying to everything the hardest way. Is there a Hydraulic system in any of the c3s?
 
I heard the LS-1 and LT1 T-56 were different because the LS-1's input shaft is slightly longer and therefore the LT-1 six speed wont bolt up has anyone heard of this problem
 
OOOps yeah I believe you can't bolt up a T-56 from an LT1 car up to an LS1 engine. :(

I could be wrong, you could ask on LS1.com or LS1tech.com. Run a search see what you can find on there or ask.

converting a C3 to hydraulic with a stock trans is not a difficult procedure.

You just have to be creative with your tools and materials. You get a complete clutch hydraulic master cylinder from a 1985 chevy truck including resevior, and hose. You can get this at Napa, or your local dealer. The Quatermaster Hydraulic Release Bearing QHRB, is simple and direct. You simply mount it on the stock trans in place of the regular release bearing, and you throw the clutch fork and all that clunky noisy heavy clutch rod and linkage away.

After it is shimmed and mounted, you bleed the air, and badda bing, badda boom, you have hydraulics.

Now, you are talking something entirely different. You will need to get the master cylinder and slave cylinder from the Fbody and adapt it to the C3 if you stick with this trans.

My suggestion is you get a straight up matching LS1 trans and sell the one you have. Less worry, less fuss.


Or, ditch the whole LS1 concept and get busy with a nice big block combo. Straight up EFI is nice on a late model engine lurking under the hood, but NOTHING sounds, feels, or has the visual apeal of a RAT motor strapped under the hood,......especially a EFI rat motor!
 
You all were correct,

I can not use the older T56 with the LS1 due to the Input shaft, Belhousing and clutch hydrolics, just got it confirmed. Thanks for telling me I was wrong, I would have s!@T if I would have already got the stuff.
