My tranny (700R4) has a connector on the drivers side an the "yoke" that I assume is the speed sensor, but can not find a diagram that shows it to save my life. I ask because mine is fried bare and the connector is not in good shape at all. Luckly it still works!

Thanks in advance...Joe

Should be on the drivers side on the tailshaft. Should be a oval connector with two wires. Its got a hold down plate with a 10mm bolt, I think thats the right size.

From your description we are talking about the same thing.

Yep, I can not really tell if the connector is actually oval is is so messed up. My Speedo has been reporting speed so it still functions. I will need to fix that puppy soonest. Thanks W.

The module is just a pull out. It's a moulded piece. Drain the tranny, remove the hold down clamp, try not to touch the wiring harness coming back. Mine crumbled all the way to the first clamp.

If its the connector thats bad I think you can get replacements from Ecklers ect.

Dr. Hrtbeat1,
Thanks again. Mine is a nifty little pile of hardened goo. I will have to buy a new module along with a pigtail I think. I have not taken it out yet as I am working on some under the hood stuff...this is "stop oil leaks" time for me. New uppers, valley gasket, and new head gaskets (got a cross threaded plug to boot...number 8, imagine that). This car was a rescue and needs some serious lovin'. I discovered the speed connector as I was attempting to discover my transmission leak...it helps if you actually tighten the tranny pan bolts! I will be getting into that (new gasket and filter...and now sensor it looks) after the engine work.
I am not complaining as I really enjoy solving problems on this car. They are really interesting both mechnically and electrically. I have plenty to satisfy my tinkering nature and I have learned a megaton about the internal combustion enigine in the past few months. I have driven the car only a little since purchase and I can not wait to get her on the road and "ring out" the fun.
Having gone over this car several times to solve other issues (hardwired cooling fans, a schreaded fuel pump relay harness, still a short in the interior light circuit that may be associated to my speedo sensor issue, now the oil leak abatement project) I have had a lot of fun fixing what some bonehead goofed on this car. I can not imagine why someone would neglect such a cool car. The C4s where and are such an interesting milestone in the vette history as this is the emergence of the true sport car and the beginning of the threat to old european motor companies.

Thanks again sorry for the ramble I am at work and...who wants to work when you could be talking about vettes!

Have a blessed Easter Weekend.

Hey, incidentally, judging by your locations, I would say that you are a sailor (current or former) more accurately a Seabee. Is that true?

Not a Seabee but a Sailor of sort. I work as an Electronics Technician for the Naval Oceanographic Office.

I know what you mean about fixing problems. I've had mine for a little over two years and am constantly working on different things to fix her up.

I spent a few years as an Electronic Warfare Tech. Just wondering with your diverse geographic locations.

Thanks again for the help.
Joe
