I have a '77 with a turbo 350. It is leaking at all the seal areas and seems pretty tired. Summit or Jegs carry "streetfighter/ street strip" turbo 350's. B&M and TCI both have them for about the same $$$.
I bought a new B&B 2200 stall convertor, flexplate, etc. and was going to have the trans rebuilt locally, but I am wary of all the trans shops I talked to. I could replace it myself.
While I'm at it, should I consider going with a Turbo 400? My engine is mild street right now, but I plan on 350 -400 hp in the next year or so.
Has anyone used one of theses "rebuilt" transmissions from either place? If so please pass along any info I could use.
Thanks............

it takes a lot more ponies to run a th400.the th350 will take 400 h.p. fine.transmissions are easily rebuilt by a qualified transmission mechanic, not so hard as a motor but can still be royally screwed by an idot.
I bought a fresh built th350 with a shift kit installed for $350.from a local tranny guy, how much for the ones you are looking at??

bad sign, mispelled idiot

aaarrrrgh, did i misspell mispell??

Within a 40 mile radius, the cheapest overhaul is $650. That price is a "basic" o/h. If major parts are shot, it'll be more. No one I spoke with has rebuilds. I guess I could widen the search and check around. Sounds like you got a deal.

Go with an o/d trans. Will be the best thing you ever did for your Vette :)

tom...

Thanks for the advise. Will the 200r4 fit the tunnel without any cutting? How about the crossmember? I e-mailed BT OD's for more info.

the 200-4r will change the way you look at your shark. It dropped right into my 80, absolutely zero modifications required. the motor was already pulled, bolted on the 200 and dropped them both in together. Voila!

used to be 3K RPM at 70 mph, now it's 3K RPM at 85-ish
