Is there a different length driveshaft for a 4 speed? Am looking into converting my auto tranny to a 4 speed and was wondering if I will have to modify/changeout the primary shaft.
Any help is appreciated.

Mike,

The propeller shaft for the manual tranny is officially at
2.50" X 28.13" X0.083" (thickness).

The automatic propeller shaft is 2.50" X 28.07" X 0.065" (thickness)

The manual tranny slip-yoke splines come in at 32 teeth (splines). The auto has 27 splines. The splines outter diameter also are different. The manual slip yoke has a diameter of 1.39" and the auto is 1.17".

I hope this helps.

the overall length is less than 1/4" between the automatic and the manual. The only reason you can't use the auto for a manual application is the U-joints.

The manual has a 5-790X and a 5-785X (Spicer Nos.), or there are two different sizes. The automatic has the same, smaller size on both ends.:cool

Another note: be sure to allow for 1 to 1.5 " "sliding room" on the yoke so as the car encounters potholes, RR tracks, different suspensions...the driveline can slide back and forth to accomodate the extremes. ;) good luck, jim
