Has anyone ever seen a picture or a 98 C5 in this color? I will probably be in the market for a 97-98 coupe, 99 FRC, or an early year ZR coming soon as I get rid of some other vehicles. I was recently checking out the production stats on the first year C5's and saw this color and there were only 12 coupes and 3 convertibles made. So how about it, anyone got a pic?

TIA,

Trev

I saw these two over the summer at Bob McDorman's show. He's got a coupe and vert. I had been wondering what the story is on these cars. Why so few made? What was special about them?

Wow....that's a nice color. Definitely an eye catcher.

Thats a pretty good looking color..so yes whats the story behind this, was there not enough demand, a special event or person, or did GM just do it for grins and giggles?

so few were made because the paint flopped when applied - it did not match at all, panel to panel :eek

So few were made, for good reason. :beer :v

Not sure where you are located, but Kerbeck has one in their showroom in Atlantic City.

As always 89X2, you deliver a worthy answer :) I would love to have I think it's 90 B2K's 90 TT Roadster No. 5, Reeves personal car...As I said before..keep on the lookout for me for an 88 Red TT Coupe with Dynamags. I will be looking around here soon for that or a C-5. Thanks....

My pleasure :beer I will keep a lookout :v

There were other colors over the years, infamous for paint issues and GM pulling the plug...

Pearl White from 89, Yellows in various years... but the gold took the cake for mis-matching... Some really like it and will pay more for what the General considered a flaw :beer

Not Aztec Gold, and not even a C5, but similar paint quality problem as the Aztec Gold. The link below is for a low mile, mint condition 94 Copper Corvette convertible at Bob McDormans.

I’ve taken a look at this car several times, I can understand why in 94 GM pulled the plug on this color, it has a “crazy quilt” look with the body panels each being slightly off (color wise). The fuel door is different from the bumper, the bumper color is different from the quarter panels, etc. When you look at this car in the right light, just about every panel is a different value of Copper Metallic.

The cars color looks uniform from a distance, but when you are within five feet, the mismatch is more apparent. Novelty and a low production run make it desirable, but it would have to be owned by someone who can overlook the inconstant paint.

A note to my above post, you’ll have to hit the “Corvette” button at the top and scroll down to the 94 Copper vert. Cars are in chronological order.

Here are is a pic of a couple more of Bob McDorman's Copper colored C4's.
