Proud poppa to a beautiful 1988 Callaway Corvette
Just a few questions for you Callaway gurus out there.

How does the Callaway community feel about the B2K production run as a whole? Do you focus on individual years, or do you see the B2K option as a five year producition run with improvements made along the way?

I know that the six-speed cars are more desirable than the 4+3s, with the automatics being most desirable due to their scarcity, but other than the Aerobody, are there other options that make the car more attractive to you as a buyer? Does the Wonderbar upgrade impact value one way or another? How about mileage? Will mid to high range mileage really devalue the car that much, or does the low production run counter that to some extent?

What would be the projected price range for a low to mid range mileage car with a moderate option list be for various years?

Thanks for your time. BTW, if anyone needs a Carfax (Autocheck, rather) run, I have about a month left on my account and would be happy to help out.

i don't own a b2k,but i remember one went thru barrett-jackson this past january with 6000 miles on it for,and i might be off a little, around 30 grand or so.it was an 80 something.go to barrett-jackson.com and you might find it in the listings if they're still up.

I tend to look at a Callaway Twin Turbo as a "whole run" and as you say, soome changes were made as the option ran through the years - biggest jump or differences were between the 1987 and 1988+ cars, engine wise.

six-speeds are my first choice howver, there is not a thing wrong with the 4+3's that Callaway modified somewhat - It boils down to preferance.
Same with the automatics - which do you prefer? Auto cars will hold boost off the line and I believe they make for a better drag racing car - few race on a regular basis though.
Price wise, it was a hefty option when new for the auto's - not a whole lot of difference seen in prices these days...

Mileage?? Under 10k is generally a like new car. 11k-40k is the next bunch, generally a car that has been enjoyed by its owner...
Mileage seems to come into the converstaion really though, after about 75k miles - these cars are generally well kept and cared for.

Options - Aerobody is a MUST HAVE for most - adds between 7 and 10 k to the value of the car, some cases - more...

100+ option - VERY RARE and desireable. Added 100+ horsepower over a standard B2K :eek

Upgrades - like leather door panels in the early cars, Dymags on early cars (Standard on 88+ cars and ended in 91 at some point, replaced by OZ's)

Big Wonderbar and hood upgrade is also desireable and NO FACTORY Callaway options or upgrades will hurt the value at all - I cannot stress that enough.

What year car, miles and options???

Hope this helps - Chris

Thanks!

Thanks, gentlemen for your replies and welcome.

I have been surfing the Callaway forum for quite some time and have been lusting after these cars ever since I knew what they were. And as you have guessed, I am indeed in the market for a car, just a little undecided about what I want and can afford. For so long just owning a B2K was the goal and now that an opportunity has arisen, I find there are many more factors to consider than initially realized.

I have been speaking with Josh (SurfnSun) for the past several weeks about his car (and I understand that it is incredibly powerful and well kept), but am keeping my options open until we can set a date to "meet" the car in person, so...

My preference like yours, Chris would first be a six-speed, then anything manual, just for the driving pleasure. There would be no desire on my part to drag race the car, so an automatic is really not required (although I wouldn't turn one down either...). A coupe is almost a necessity, but other than that, I don't think I will be able to afford anything Aerobody, even as sexy as it is. Also, if you haven't guessed, a legitimate B2K car is an absolute necessity. Guess I would like to find an 88+ model year car that fit into the middle mileage category as well, hopefully with upgrades like the Wonderbar and Dymags. Not sure what else, but if you could help out with pricing from there, I would certainly appreciate it.

Thanks again, guys for the warm welcome and the assistance. Take care and have a nice evening.

Justin

P.S. Please, do tell about this wonderful "100+" option and what it consisted of.

Don't wait to long as time goes by the c-4's in general will increase in value , look at how well the 96 Grand Sports sre holding there value certainly once those who collect purely for low production run factory cars I believe the b2k's will shoot up, besides once you own a twin turbo the boost is addictive and believe me its hard to own a naturally aspirated vette new or old ....your almost guaranteed to have the only one at your local car show , If you can find one in the low to mid 20's you will certainly be able to resell for your buy price so jump right in!!!

I have a friend near Chicago who would sell his '87, with DyMags. It is burgundy and has less than 20k on the odo. He has had it to the McCormick show a couple of times.

Pvt msg me, if you want to talk with him.

Great... Now you guys have me even more excited about owning a B2K than ever before:)). Thanks again for your help.

I certainly appreciate the offer Whalepirot, but I'm going to try and hold out for the right 88+ car. I will however, keep your friend's car in mind as it sounds like quite a nice car with excepional mileage.

Looking forward to hearing from and meeting the rest of the Callaway community with their knowledge and opinions, so please stop in and say hello!

Justin

the 87's turbos spool up quicker and are more fun below 80 mph the 90 takes longer to get going really nothing until 2500 rpmin second then it pullslike an animalto 150!! I f you you get a deal on an 87 with low mileage for close to 20you can't get hurt and can enjoy right away

Gee, maybe I should invest as he has offered the car to me many times. Career/company is diving, tho......

I planned on trying to make it to Carlisle again this year (last year was my first visit). Where will the Callaway Owners Group be associating? It would be quite a thrill to meet some fellow Callaway enthusiasts and owners in person. BTW, the link takes me to a Microsoft site (looks like ole' Bill is continuing in his world domination...lol).

Thanks,
Justin

Justin, this year at Corvettes @ Carlisle, we have an awesome spot - It is right with the outdoor Callaway Cars display tent and should work out nicely, displaying all the cars of the past - right along with the future :cool

Entering through the main gate w/ at the grounds, you would head straight till' the 4 way stop sign.
Making a right, you would head down 5 or 6 rows towards the grandstand and we will be on the right side :cool

Hope you have a car by then. :v :m
