When the dash lights are on, my water temperature gauge pegs out. Winding the headlight switch rheostat up and down makes the gauge go up and down. I'm thinking there is a short in the system but was wondering if maybe it is a bad gauge? Are the lights connected to the gauges?

Nope, no connection between the lights and the gauges. The temp gauge and fuel gauge get 12 volts directly from the instrument panel harness; you may have a gray light wire pinched together with the 12V feed to the temp gauge.

Have you had the center cluster out lately? There is circuit board back there. Its printed with copper. I've seen a picture on another forum. The problem could be there. I'll see if i can find it.

The copper takes the current to the lights. Its possible the guage is touching the copper incorrectly.

Where is the temp guage on yours?
