Bad Vibrations!

I would get someones rims and tires and put them one your car for a test drive, though not a Vette, but my GMC Yukon just cost me 3000.00 replacing everything under the sun, and it turned out to be a broken band in the tire. The tires where less than 6 months old, and balanced, but when they where on the truck with the weight, the bands separated at 40mph plus and created a very pesky vibration. It took 2 garages, 1 chevy dealer, and finally me to have enough common sense to change the tires from my pickup truck to the Yukon, and presto.

Have you checked out the Power Steering Ram. If this unit is bad, your whole car will shake or vibrate. I need to replace mine because I can feel an off-on type of vibration plus the fact that in the last 24 years, it has never been replaced or touched. When I reach speeds of over 80mph, the car starts to shake.

I did notice something else that may be of concern.
The right rear wheel bearing has about 1/4" of play in it ( moving the tire back and forth from top to bottom).
Would this cause a vibration?

Don't check bearing play by working the tire at 12 and 6; that introduces play and compliance from the half-shaft U-joints, camber strut bushings, and the trailing arm front bushing. Check it by working the tire at 3 and 9, where there is virtually no compliance from any other component.

If the vibration appears to be acceleration or deceleration-related, you might check the bolt and bushings where the diff nose bracket bolts to the frame; if the bolt is loose or the bushings have deteriorated, it will cause all manner of vibration and weird noises, and is a frequent problem on all '63-'82 Corvettes.

Vibration

As I post this reply, I can only wonder if you're vibration has been cured... I have a vibration and I am going to have my exhaust re-positioned Tuesday. May 11, 2004

The wheel and tire thing sounds like the cheapest and easiest thing to try. I've always been told, start with the cheapest thing and work your way up.

Yes, most of the easy things get forgoten. I have seen most of the posts say of all that was done, but never hear "vibration is fixed" YEAHHHH!!!!
I have heard MANY times the polly bushings offer long life but not comfort and being a good replacement for OE. (IE trans and diff mounts) and most haven't seen the service bulliten for vibration under acceleration that addresses that torque can cause this too. I'm gonna try the easy stuff here along with an alignment and hope for the best.
