Barry..Haven't had an update as of late on the Progress of Baby. Whats the latest? Been to the shop? Have they shot the hood?? How about a PIC or 2??Let us all know.!

Andy
just stopped by the shop this afternoon. All wetsanding is finished and about half the car is finished final buffing. He is nitpicking like crazy again though. while buffing he found a couple places that didn't buff out to his satisfaction (damn if I could see what was wrong in those areas) so he went back, re-wetsanded again, than rebuffed. To be more accurate, I think he's actually on his second or third "final" buffing! ;LOL
The hood still needs to be sprayed than wetsanded and buffed and the windshield and rear window put in.
Than it's reassembly time.

He said he's working thru this weekend on my car as he really wants (and needs) to get my car out of the shop next week so he said next week will be the week........ that will be great BUT I'll believe it when I see Baby home again in her own garage spot here at the house.

Oh, he just brought another car into the shop to work on - just touch up work on a car he did 12 years ago as a basket case for a customer. What a beautiful '70-'71?? GTO. There is NO more room in his shop to park a car so it's actually parked inside at the shop next store to his until he can get my car out and have room to get this new one in.

So............. next week I'm hoping will be the exciting week.

Yeah....then you'll be picking it up and parking it in the Gee-Rage for the rest of the year..... Oh.....can't get no chips on my car....:L

;LOL Mark

yep, I know the first few drives will be hard since i'll be afraid of the dreaded chips...... BUT, as soon as she is home again I'm driving her as often and as much as I can!!!! That's what I bought her for anyway, to DRIVE and ENJOY.
That first rock chip will bother the hell out of me but than I'll calm down and everything will be fine. Once the paints "virginity" is broken than no use worrying about it anymore. Besides, chips are just reminders of pleasant times driving :beer

I'm going to do the best I can so that Baby sees as little garage time as possible, at least until the cold weather returns and it's storage time. She has been sitting unused too long and she needs to stretch her legs a bit.

I didn't go over to see him yesterday but I'm going over today and will find out where we stand. All I know is that when I see Baby today she better be pretty d*mn close or else I'm going to be pretty d*mn upset.

Holly Smokes! Barry is all fired up! Never seen him in such a state!

Every man has his limits, think we might be getting close to seeing arry reach his . . . good luck Barry, hope you get the car out of resto jail soon. And when you do, no more scraping the side of the garage door frame when backing up!

yep, I'll admit it, I'm reaching the end of my patience - it's been a long time already and i'm NOT very patient by nature to begin with. I think this project have taken the next 7 years worth of my patience. I love the work he has done and his attention to the tiniest detail, but enough is enough already and I just want my car back to enjoy.

hmmmmmm, Jack..... we REALLY don't need to bring up that subject anymore, thanks very much! :mad :r

Andy, here's the update from today - I just got back from the shop 10 minutes ago.

He's still finishing up the buffing on the body and the hood is primed and ready to go into the booth to be sprayed. The windshield and rear window should be going in tonight or tomorrow. There was definately less progress shown than I expected to see today but he is still saying Fri. is his target date that he is shooting for. I'm having doubts but that's what he is saying.......... if so, he better get things in high gear. His plan was to continue buffing the car out for the entire rest of today. After the buffing he goes back over the paint with a glaze to get the swirl marks out from the buffer and really shines it up. The hood should only be a one day job to paint and clear it than wetsanding and buffing would be the next day I suppose. Because of the hood still needing to be done is why I have my doubts about the car being done on Fri but we will see.
He said since pretty much everything (except the new windshield trim molding which I got brand new ones) were already on the car and new and excellent shape when they were removed, he thinks reassembly should go very quickly. I told him to call me if there was anything I could do to help him during reassembly to maybe speed things up a little bit even if it's only a few hours. If it's not done by Friday it will be next week but I'm hoping for Fri and so is he but all I can do is wait and see what happens.

Paul, already got it last year at Carlisle. That is one lesson I'll NEVER forget.
oh, and like Jack, thanks SOOOOO much for reminding me of that little incident too.

If I ever need reminding of my past screw-ups I know where to come.........

Barry,
You know we love ya man!
I hope we're not riling you.
I know that is not anyone's intent, but for the life of me, I will never understand patience like yours. I do admire it though.

I will try to learn from you and emulate your patience...it has never been one of my better qualities.

Question for you though, did your painter originally give you a timeline (even ballpark) when you took Baby to him?

I have spoken to my painter and friend about re-doing my car.
My car has quite a few issues. He told me he would take about one year.
He normally gives you a timeline then comes in under it.

I guess the day that I drop it off I would have to resign myself to not having
the car for a year. I am struggling with that, as I am probably going to do the car next year.
I guess if I go in with that mindset, it will make the waiting more bearable.

Restorations are not my painter's bread and butter, (insurance repairs) but something he used to do. He does excellent work!

Anyway, don't lose it now...you've come too far.

Best regards,
Pedro
