New XLR AD The Heading... Elegance and Muscle Car Co-Mingle in the Exhilarating XLR It goes on to exploit the Corvette,... Yeesch its all over now.

Where, what's the source? Oh, just got it. You're talking about the XLR advertisement. Sorry, Thought you meant the announcement of a new model - XLR AD.

I've seen some of their ads, but possibly not the one to which you refer. Until I see it, I still think the XLR is riding the coat tails of the Vette and that's ok with me. VERY, very few serious vette customers will be swayed to plop their cash (+25k more) down in the Cad showrooms for an XLR. Very different demographics IMO.

The alante' tried this a decade ago w/ the northstar installed - I would not buy the caddy over a vette even if the price was close - xlr is competing w/ benz, sc430, jag, and other high end verts - Not a vette...

Thats not really my concern. My concern is that the XLR is going to be considered as a better Corvette by there ads.

Hi there,
Refinement is what XLR is.
Different engine, transmission, and electronics.
There are only frame rails, rear differential, and control arm that are the same.

I imagine that a parallel implication would have been made back w/ the alante'

It didn't fly then and it won't fly now - Vette has 50 years of heritage - that caddy surely dosen't - I won't forget and I hope GM dosen't either :m

Trust me on this. There is a whole lot more then frame rails that are common between C6 and XLR. The motor is not. The interior is not. The body panels are not. Thats about it! The rest is 90% the same between XLR and Corvette. Even the automatic transmission. I owned 2 Allante's and they were not at all similar to the C4 of the time.

The XLR should be better at being a Luxury touring car and coddling to the owner than the Vette. It should be better at separating the Lux Sports Car customers from their money than the vette. The Vette will be better at everything related to performance and that is what is important to you and me. Everyone's ads claim their cars are the best - who cares. We know who's best by driving, racing and reading the comparos.

Those uniformed people reading the ads and forming opinions based on the ads do not interest me - they can study my tail lights.

Hi there,
The automatic transmission is NOT the same.
This is a 5L50-E automatic 5 speed, for the XLR.
The Corvette has a 4L60-E, which is a 4 speed.
What has been mentioned is fact, and should be considered as such.
Exhaust, interior components, keylessstarting, transmitter function, and many other features exist that do NOT on Corvette, including Onstar.
After being fully schooled on XLR and Corvette, the differences abound.

yeah but how many features on the XLR will we see in the C6, more than I would like to see.

Just to be clear on this, you are stating that the C6 will ..
1. not have OnStar.
2. not have keyless starting.
3. not have transmitter entry.

Can't say that I am surprised about #2 & #3, but OnStar is standard on Impalas now isn't it? I'm shocked that it won't be on the C6. Next you'll say that it won't have homelink.

INDEED the C5 does. But its the C6 that XLR shares everything with not C5 and the 5 speed auto tranny will be one of them in model year 2005. Then they will be saying OH Look! The Corvette has the Cadillac Transmission in it instead of the other way around get my point? Please stop banging your head its an honest mistake on your part :D :L

C6 will have everything XLR has except the keyless starter. On Star yes Touch-n-Open door handles/fobs yes.

It has been proven in durability testing that the 5L50-E cannot handle LS classification torque.
This is exactly why the transmission will not be in c6.
All transmissions are design from the torque that the unit can handle.
After that , Iwill not comment of c6 features, plain and simple.
You may consider this a service, however, it is not my place to theorize. It has not been released, so this is where my involvement in the discussion ends.

Does that mean that the C6 will only have a 4 speed auto and not a 5 speed auto like the XLR??? That would suck!

:( :(

Everybody!

All together, now...:hb
:L

Among the public masses, no one knows what the C6 will or won't have until GM releases it. Anything posted in these forums until then should be treated as SPECULATION, NOT FACT no matter what anyone says about whatever inside information they have access to.
The people who KNOW, know everything and are forbidden to disclose information until its' release. The people who have been given limited access are shown exactly what GM wants to show them.

I'm reserving judgement until the C6 is actually in front of me at Rick Daniels' Maxie Price. Then I will make up my mind about how I like it.

Your absolutely right! GM will share what they want to. The service people who go to school on this will only be informed enough to get the job done (and done correctly of course).

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the 5 speed automatic would be offered once the torque ratings were increased.

Be careful to the ones who say (this is the way it will be and that's it!!!).

This IS what all the participants on other sites are saying. They say that the C5 Auto will hold over in the C6 until the GM/Ford 6speed Auto is available. No one seem to know when that will be.

I'm a standard trans. guy, but wouldn't it be wild if they added the steering wheel paddles to either the 5 or 6 speed automatics!!!
