Help
I have a 88 coupe that wont start if sets over a few days to a week, what is odd is that the car will not boost with a charger or if you try to jump it from another car, its will only start with a new battery. I dont drive the car very much but I dont think the battery should go dead so quick and it goes completly dead & thers no way to start the car, when the car is running it runs fine and the alternator test fine. The last battery I put in I keep my charger on autmatic so it would kick on as the battery needed charge since I wasnt going to be driving the car, it was fine about a week ago I unhooked the charger drove the car, didnt hook the charger back up, went to start it a few days later, dead .

The usual advice is to pull all the fuses from the panel, then check for drain as you replace them one by one. Hold the door switch in when you do this.
I suggest you first disconnect the underhood lights, then see if it still runs down. I had that problem and found it accidently.

My fiancee has a 96 convertible. We found one of the vanity lights on the visor mirror was staying on and slowly draining the battery. Might be worth a look.

6speeder, if a battery is stone dead very often you will not be able to start the car without first putting a charge in the battery.

Connections are fine, Im aware electricity has no intelligence, I was just trying to provide as much info as possible.

Join the club. My 86 does the same thing and I can't find the drain on the battery. I don't drive it much so I finally bought a "battery brain" for it. It gives you a keychain remote to connect and disconnect your battery and also will automatically disconnect at 12.1 volts. Works great and also is a good theft deterent.

Same here on my 85. I don't know how the mercury switches cannot do their job, but that was my problem, too.
