Battery Issue

For the past six months I have started having problems with my 2008 Coupe retaining a charge on the battery beyond 2 weeks. After about 12 - 15 days the battery will be completly discharged and will not even be able to open the door due to lack of charge. I took it back to the dealer who said everything is normal and I just don't drive the car enough. However, I have had the car for approximately 18 mos and before this could let it sit for 3 - 4 weeks and it would start. Is this normal or should the dealer replace the battery?

A drained battery is something that was plaguing my 2006 for a while. It took me until just recently to ultimately get it scoped out, and in my case, it seems there was a Technical Service Bulletin out on it: I had a Remote Control Door Lock Module that was not turning itself off when the car was shut off and the alarm system armed itself.

Try taking you Vette to a dealer in your area you know has a good reputuation for knowing what they're doing with Corvettes and asking them to test what modules are not shutting off when the car is shut off.

If the car sits for an extended period of time, use a battery tender. My 2007 corvette battery lasted about 1 year, The battery drained down rapidly in the winter months while the car was sitting in the garage for long periods of time. I now use a tender in the winter months. No more problems.

I have a 2007 Z06 purchased new in October of '06. The car has now survived three winters in Michigan. Stored in the garage during winter. No battery tenders.

Never a failed start. Original battery still in vehicle with 18,000 miles.

The bulletin you need is; #07-06-03-001B, released on March 21,2007.

This should take care of your concern.

According to Catbert (Rich) and a Corvette specialist, the C6 should be parked in reverse with the brake on for the M6 transmission. This is stated in the owner's manual. Apparently if the shifter is left in any other gear on the M6, the computer does not shut down the battery functions and the battery could run down. I don't know if the brake position is a factor or not and I don't know about the Auto tranny. When my cars are not going to be started for several weeks, I use a battery tender.

I was told that it applied to C6 corvettes, not just the 2005 model. I don't know if it is true or not, but Catbert has a Ron Fellows corvette and it's not a 2005.
