I'm working on my 95 Coupe that i bought 6 weeks ago. had a dash fire that melted the cluster and harness. i gutted the interior and replaced all the burnt and melted components including the complete dash harness. finally got to the point where it was ready to turn the key and much to my surprise she started on the first crank and went right into a smooth idle. i let it run for awhile just checking everything.so far all good. i shut the car off and when i did, the battery light came on and stayed on even after i removed the key. any ideas. thx in advance for your help

Just a guess from experience,Shorted Diode or Shorted Voltage Regulator in the Alternator.:thumb

Probly a by product of the dash fire!:thumb:thumb

alternator output 14.4 volts reading 13.9 at batt. when i turn the key to the run position batt lite goes out. shouldn't it be lit til i start the car

Yes, the light should be on with the key in "run" position with the vehicle NOT running, and the light should go off with the vehicle running. With the key out of the ignition and the light on in the dash, disconnect the plastic harness plug connector to the alternator and see if the light goes off. Good luck with it. :)
