had a hot date with my vette last night at the track and we made some passes. best time was my first run and i hit 13's! here is the break down from the time slip.

RT: .544
60' 1.969
330: 5.800
1/8: 8.947
mph 78.55
1000: 11.658
1/4: 13.965
mph: 99.49

my witness was Jim (MDFormula350) as he snapped alot of shots of my vette :D Thanks Jim! i overwound the 2nd gear shift to 5200 rpm on this run. i did heat the tires and she spun up so hard she hit the rev limiter! this was my first time on the limiter ever. i had 20 psi in the old GSC's and was dissapointed when i launched on this run, thinking because i didn't spin it was gonna be slow. when i got the time slip i was so happy i couldn't believe it! best thing is i got around 100 dollars in mods if that! all this on a 2.59 rear gear and a stock stall at 1600 rpm. i was staged at 185* water temp also. i think with cooler weather (high 40's low 50's) and staged at 160* degrees, as she sits right now while hitting my shift points at 4900 rpm, i could see a 13.7 pass :D

Rich Rubel is helping me install my front Y pipe with no pre-cats and i might gut the cat at the same time until i get my high flow cat.

i think my next mod will be a chip from Jeff so my fans come on way early.

Current Mod List:
Mostly stock all free mods K&N open air box, MAF descreened, TB Bypassed, 160* T-Stat, Accel Super Coil, 12* degree advance timing, and No Mufflers.

I'm still in shock over that time... that's with a fairly stock auto... definitely something wrong with mine that I can't even break 14.5 with most of the same mods.

Congrats, Mad Mic!

One of the lowest $ mods in my vette and other cars I have seen here at the track that are worth for better times is the the MSD 6A Ignition Control Unit, maybe somebody here has some numbers with it at the track!

Can you tell me the altitude of the track? Here we are at 5,150 ft.

I was here in 14.9s before the long tube headers and the MSD unit. Is a lot better now but haven't tested yet at the track (bad "u" joints and low $)

Does anybody knows if there's any conversion tables between sea level and other altitudes?

See you

George

thanks fella's! i was in utter shock when i seen the timeslip! on the run i thought i was slow cause she didn't spin at all off the line so i thought it was gonna be alittle slow.

we are about 50 ft above sea level.

Mic,
Congrats, I have never, ever got a 60 ft time like that out of GSC's. Perhaps 20psi is the way to go, I have never tried below
25 psi.

I think your 60 ft time was the key. Nice RT also.

Rich,

I don't think anything is way off with your car. I think we all need
practice now to catch up to Mic's 60 ft time on stock tires.

Maybe I will put off my muffler change a while and play games with the tire pressure. I have the eliminators, I just have not installed yet.

Rich,
What was your 1/4 mi mph?

Mic,
What was your typical 1/4 mi mph before last night?

my typical 1/4 mile time was around 14.40ish and up. that night i ran a 14.14 with a 2.03 60' and a 14.04 with a 1.98 60'

i'm hoping for a 13.6-13.7 this friday night with the gutted cat and new front y pipe that doesn't have pre-cats :D (thanks to Rich for helping me :))

when the weather gets colder 40's-50's at night and i get staged at 160'ish i'm hoping for a 13.3-13.4 pass. we shall see :D

awesome times, Mic! its about time for some drag radials huh?

sooner than later im gonna have to make another road trip over to Capital and run with you guys. or if youre looking to shave off a tenth or 2 you can meet me at Cecil!

yeah i'd like to get up there but it'll have to be on a sat unless i find another job and get off early caue i can't here :(

you just need to come down for a weekend and lets rip some rice up :D

hey vettred91, i believe www.nhra.com has a conversion table for track altitudes.

Thanks Regalniz, I'll take a look right now.

Mad Mic, I'm using the GSCs too and always at 25 psi. But in my last time at the track; after 5 runs I checked the tires and they where at 29! (all four) so I had to let out some air again to let them at 25. After that, I did my last run and my all time best (Cobra kill) 14.893''. My vette is an auto but I was testing the new 3.54 rear axle and my tires where spinning too much until that run!

The point is you have a manual and maybe more spin problems so, maybe in your next time at the track could be better if you check the air after each run!
(maybe I should change those bad U joints in my Vette and see my new times with the long headers & the msd ignition control unit)

Good luck,
George

George i have an auto trans with the stock 1600 rpm stall convert and a 2.59 rear gear :(

yeah you are up pretty high alt! i ran the 13 sec pass with 20 psi in the rear tires. at 36 psi (for driving) i spin it up to 3700 rpm easily from a 5-10 mph romp now :D

tpi89vette. your right i do need some DR's but i think i'm gonna get the 275/40/17 F1's and put the 285/40/17 F1's in the back for next season and see how they do. when i burn them up i'll go with the DR's cause then i'll be even on all 4's with 275/40/17's :D

Hooops! Sorry I miss that! But anyway check the tires after each run, and for the DRs I have heard that the Dana 36 may not hold up that much stress so maybe we need some spin after all!;shrug

See you!
George

ive got about 50+ passes on my 82k mile D36 this season... all of which were with a 2500 stall converter and BFGoodrich drag radials (which net me consistant mid 1.7 sec 60fts). while these rears may not be the strongest, theyll hold up to some abuse.

if youre spinning BTW, youre not putting all your power to the ground and not realizing the full potential of your Vette

*updated*

ran a best of 13.78 @ 102.5 mph with only a 2.11 60' time. track wasn't as good as last week when i ran the 1.96 60' but still picked up 3 mph and 2 tenths. i was hoping for a 13.4-13.5 pass but the track wasn't cooperating :(

my times were as follows.

13.78 2.11 60' 102.5 mph
13.86 2.16 60' 101.65 mph
13.92 2.22 60' at 102.25 mph.

i was spinning all the way thru first gear on 20 psi. i'm moving my F1's to the back and the GSC's up front since they are rubbing on turns. i can't get a DR in 285 size so i will put new F1's in a 275 size up front to even out the DR's sometime next year which only come in 275/40/17's.

awesome! man your trap speed went up alot since last time! when i was trapping mid 102s, i was running 13.4s with a mid 1.9 sec 60ft. get some traction, and youll be right there!

BTW - maybe youre spinning more not because the track was prepped different, but because you gained ALOT more power from your recent mods?
