It looks as if my battery needs to be replaced. What is the best way to get at the little bugger? Is removing a body panel really the best option?
Thanks,
VINNY

;stupid

The only tricky bolt is under the lower rocker ? area just in front of the door.
I learned the hard way, just LOOSEN it don't remove it.
The panel is slotted so it will slide straight out.
Unless someone changed the bolts on the fender well, you will need a torx socket. Forget the size.

It's no big deal

It's slotted only if the panel has been removed in the past and a slot cut into it; the panel was not slotted from the factory according to the instruction sheet that accompanied the battery shield piece one can get from the aftermarket suppliers. I don't have my service manual on hand at the moment, so I can't verify if it tells you the same thing, but then it probably ain't much help anyway; that thing drives me crazy sometimes! :crazy

Thanks Guys: I printed out this page and if it ever gets above freezing here, I'll check the battery and replace it. My car looks exactly like the one in nyernga's picture.

Thanks Moonunit 451. That was really helpful. Anyway, now the battery has been replaced ( 2 year old ACDelco which read 1.7 volts after being charged) lets seee if this was the source of the parasitic drain all along. Otherwise, its back to the Priority Start mentioned in another post.

Yes, there is a small slot in that rocker panel. If you do not want to scrape the paint every time you take the panel off, buy a CHEAP 10mm open wrench and grind it to make it thinner so it will fit. Then, LOOSEN the bolt enough to slide the panel out, after removing the torx bolts (4 or 5) that hold the panel to the fender well. Remember there is another small bolt under the weatherstripping near the door hinge (upper).
