2002 Torch Red Coupe
Hi

I have decided not to put any money into my 96Lt1 Coupe inorder to enhance its performance. It would be prudent to just pick up a C5 (coupe) and be done with it. The only problem is that my C4 is problem free except some minor glitches that cost next to nothing to fix. Right now it is at 45,000 miles and in excellent condition. Another person would think it was even better but l'm a fusspot.

What would be the best year to buy used as far as the least problems.

And what should l expect to spend? I will be paying cash so interest rates doesn't come into it.

Thanks

Alan

What happen to the 2K?

The best year??........

'98, of course, it was the best Pace Car!!

Senior moment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry

For some reason l forgot to list the 2000 and should have left off the model year 1997.

I haven't followed along with the C5 for long enough to know which had more problems and what they were. What I do know is that the 2000 had the nice new this spoke wheels, which would make them much easier to clean inside the rim.

2001 had engine modifications that produced more power and torgue over the 97 to 00 engine. The downside was the initial design of the 01 engine engine consumed a large amount of oil. This was addressed in the 02 engine.

I see that your current car is an auto. Though some don't like them, I really like the looks of the FRC which has a manual transmission. These cars are solid, handle well with the Z51 as the only suspension available and tend to have a cheaper price. They were only in 99 (~4000 units) and 00 (~2000 units). I am really impressed with the performance of our FRC. They are the lightest model and the stiffest. The ride is fantastic.

I guess I'd vote for a 2000 FRC. ;) This had the thin spoked wheels and also had other options available that weren't on the 99 model, such as HUD. FRC's can be found in the mid $20k range.

Good luck, you won't be disappointed with the C5. Have you ever ridden or driven one?

2003 C5

Hi

The 2003 is too expensive compared with earliar years, and if l was going to step out for a 2003, l might as well wait for the C6.

Leon, yes l've driven the C5 and l like it except that it feels not as nimble as the C4. The C5 also has a larger interior, but being only 5'7" the C4 is a better fit.

Check the FRC. Without the hatch the interior seems smaller and a tighter fit. I'm comparing the ride in my C4 vert, which is never sure footed over bumps with the chassis flex. The Z51 is a superior ride.

I have a 99 and it's got the HUD......

The HUD wasn't available in the FRC in 99 but was available in the coupe and vert. I believe the HUD was available for the 00 FRC though.

I'm placing my bets on a 2004 (just a LITTLE biased). I've been a GM guy for most of my life (12 new ones) and it seems like the last year of their generations are usually the best, since they get most of the kinks out of them by then. Unfortunately, by the time they've gotten some right, they deep six them (e.g. Corvair, Fiero).

I would have to say '02/'03. Reason: almost all options were made standard. That meant less boxes to check and less worries about what you might have forgotten.

I'll have to agree with the 2004 its debugged!!! My 2000 has a book so thick of service repairs that even today it is in the shop. All electrical...soooo sad.

Hey Kimgman,
You forgot 2003. Maybe you explained this eariler but it does not exempt (bad word I could not think of any thing better) you from including it. I own a 2003 and it is a rocket. My plate says it all : ULTM8SK8. I am 5'6" and find the interior to be spacious. I enjoy taking it on long business trips. The sound system is too good to explain. Banarama, the Bangles, the Beach Boys, Duran-Duran, James Bond. Way tooo hot. I have no way to compare the handling. My other cars have been Honda Accord, Phymouth Horizion, Pontiac Sunbird and Buick Century. Needless to say the Vette is -the- hottest car I've every driven. The best part is with my daughter. I took her (she has a L.P.) to a school parking lot. I had her go WOT for 4 seconds. Like MasterCard: 2003 Vette: $48,000, Daughter's L.P.: $65.00, Look on daughter's face after going WOT: priceless.

Any Vette you get will be great!!!!

I had a 98 and they still had a lot of bugs to work out.

I have had a 03 for 10 months without the first problem.

The newer the better.

You might consider the 03 with magnetic ride control, once you've driven it you'll love it. You should be able to find some end of year deals before the 04 arrives. Plus you will have a 50 year edition that will hold some extra value.

What happened to 2003? I am being bias but com'on 50th annivesary and the AE... hello does anyone else agree? Thanks:Steer
