Blaupunkt Dash "conversion"??

For 4 bones I'd rather get a really nice stereo, which can be had in the $250 range, then spend the rest on a wood insert kit or something like that. What is the price of a new dash console? It can't be much more than $150. I'd do some homework on prices before I jumped into that deal. A good idea, but a tad pricey.

Besides, Blau no longer makes as good a unit as they used to. Made in Japan now, which doesn't make it bad, but not as good as their older Austrian made units. They do not compare to Alpine or Kenwood, and you can get a knocked out Kenwood for less than $300.

I have had a Kenwood in my daily driver. It crapped out on me, so I sent it in for service. About a month later, I get it back and they haven't even touched it (realigned the laser or some such nonsense). In the downtime, I got fed up with looking at the hole in my dash, so I bought a unit I was planning to buy anyway and put into the Vette. It was an Eclipse. Now, my ears are ruined for anything less! I was planning on putting the Kenwood back in, but the Eclipse sounds SO NICE! The Eclipse currently lacks the Sirius satellite feature (a great plus for the Kenwood), but the Eclipse is also upgradable. Bottom line, I am thinking of selling the Kenwood when it gets back (a second time) from the manufacturer. Don't get me wrong, the Kenwood is s fine unit, especially their Xcelon (sp?) line. Mine is an X569, but compared to the Eclipse, there is no comparison. As for the Blaupunkt, can't say much on them either way. It does seem pricey to me, though.

I purchased a bezel from vette specialties and got a sony xplod cdxm800 from hookedontronics.com i am satisfied with it.

Looks good. How difficult was it to install?

What did you do for speakers? I lean towards just using a higher powered head unit and efficient speakers rather than separate amps because there aren't a whole lot of places to hide them on a Vette. And I also lean towards replacing the existing speaker wires with better wires - it does make a difference. I have seen subs and other speaker set ups in the back of C3's but it cuts down on the already limited storage space. It rarely looks good unless the installation is custom, and then, more costly.

Anyone else care to share your C3 stereo and speaker set ups?

i have infiniti kappa 462.5 4x6''s in the dash...with new wires....i dont have any speakers in the back yet...im still debating on what to get...i still have another pair of the infiniti kappas...im thinking i might use them also

Considering you can buy the gauge cluster for ~$100, and Crutchfield of all places sell the same radio for $119, that conversion seems a bit steep (like twice the price). I asked Mid America if I could buy the new style gauge cluster itself for $99 same as the old style, no problem, but when I got it, it was the old shaft style. I called to complain and the different person I spoke to said they didn't sell it like that. So I took the dremel to the shaft style and it looks great.

Here's the radio:

eclipse

Install an Eclipse with Kicker speakers, front and rear, you won't be disappointed. I cut the dash on my 78 and installed rear speaekers in the back. I have an 100watt amp installed where the center storage box used to be in the rear.

Kicker makes a 4x6? Or did you go with a different size? I have 4x6 in the front and 6x9 in the rear. Are the rears the original size?
