From autoextremist.com:

GM. John McElroy, influential host of "Autoline Detroit" (http://www.autolinedetroit.tv/) a weekly television program seen on our local PBS affiliate and also on the Speed Channel, reported on his "Automotive Insight" program on WWJ radio this morning that GM has a new, top-secret facility under construction in Wixom, a far western suburb of Detroit. What will happen in this facility? John is reporting that GM will use the facility to create handbuilt engines for GM's future performance cars, much in the same way that AMG does for Mercedes-Benz - with one technician building an entire engine by hand. Candidates for this program? Most likely the 625hp V-8 engine for the upcoming ultra-high-performance version of the next generation C6 Corvette, code-named "Blue Devil." Also, future engines for Cadillac's aggressive new V series program, which will include V-8s and reportedly even V-12s. If this sounds like a GM we're not quite familiar with as enthusiasts, stay tuned - we're predicting more moves like this in the future from the Sleeping Giant - who is now wide awake and running on a couple of pots of high-octane 100% Colombian.

Sounds good. I cant wait to see the new Vette kill the Vipers, GT's, Germans and Italians.

"...one technician building an entire engine by hand..."? So they're only going to make twelve cars a year?

As Rob states, they are "wide awake and running on a couple of pots of high-octane 100% Colombian."

Columbian what? :J

If a highly paid tech can only build twelve engines a year, then imagine what the engine alone is going to cost... Yikes !

Sweet!

imagine how good the engine is gonna be! Im one of those firm believers in people making my car instead of computers.

Grrrrrrrreat... when that Blue Devil comes out we can park next to the Mustangs with our regular C6s and point at it when they point at the GT. :L

I'm wondering if even the C6 Z06 won't be able to show it's tail lights to the GT & Viper.

The Blue Devil will be in lamborgini and Enzo camparos. I can see it in the car rags now: "The BD Vette simply does not measure up to these two super Euro cars. It is is .002 seconds slower to 60 and took a quarter of an inch longer to stop from 150 MPH. In addition its measured top speed was only 202 MPH - 1 MPH slower than the Lambo. Although the BD Vette's slalom speed of 85 bested the others by about 15 MPH, the BD's other performance stats no doubt suffer from cutting production corners to keep costs down. At $100K, the BD sells for only a small fraction of the $400k+ Ferrari and Lambo."

So the C6 will have the regular coupe/convertibles, a Z06 and now this even higher performance model?

Wixom, Michigan is the home of Pratt & Miller Engieering. P&M build the C5R factory Corvettes. I'm wondering if the "new" engine assembly building will be within P&M, or a separate building. We'll see.

Btw, Katech Engineering in Clinton Township, Michigan, builds the factory C5 engines for Chevy, and many other race teams.

I've toured both facilities, and they are first class, top notch operations! :)

Do not rule out Callaway. I got a funny vibe when I talked to them last month. He (I say no more) clearly indicated they were working on a C6 project... but he "couldn't say" anything right now.

Interesting that they are working on a C6 project when the car won't be out for 7 months. How did they get a car to work on? Or... are they just working on an LS2 or LS7 motor?

Lots of unanswered questions... I'll try to squeeze out some more info without being obnoxious.:upthumbs

i know ive posted this before but
when i was talking to a women at the dc auto show who was awnsering questions about the cien (which was beautiful) i asked will they build it she said no, then i said they have to build something like it and she said, well
