A post from another site: "... those are not body panels at all! What we see is actually made up of painted rennwood and fixture plank that is doweled and bolted up to a steel skeleton.
It is known by GM terms as a DQ&V (Design, Quality and Verification) model. GM got back into doing full vehicle mock up once Lutz got in control. The models are used to show a variety of thing, but most importantly they are used for gap controlling and surface flush or undeflush conditions. What is seen is what is referred to as an ExCB or a full exterior cubing buck.
GM's name for the C6 is GMX 245, it can be see from the head on shot printed on the lower plate. Several other bucks exists such as ICB's (Interior Cubing Bucks) which are full mock ups of the interior out of rennwood, fixture plank, fiberglass and other materials painted in gray primer. Depending on the ICB level, the more detail is involved all the way up to full clothed over interiors. I was not involved with the building of this buck, but I have seen it and do know which building it lives in.
The front clip you see in the model may or may not be used in production. I have seen about 4 or 5 of them around. I have seen a to variations of a full interior. Both of them look very nice. GM is getting away from the solid color interiors and dressing them up similar to the European cars. One variation had aluminum bezels around the HVAC unit, HVAC vents, door pulls and radio knobs. The second variant had dark gray interior with beige lower knee bolster and glove box door. The passenger side grab handle is gone on the instrument panel. Also the passenger side portion of the instrument panel is more concave in shape with the new "Crossed Flags" Corvette Log. Actually the new logo no longer has the flag posts crossing or a ring around it either. The are some very hard lines on the exterior of the C6 as well. The stylists tightened up the lines on the deck lid/hatch and continued those lines through the roof and rear fascia. Also up for grabs are about 3 different exhaust tip styles. One style is a what you see in the picture of the quad round tips. The two other style are a dual oval type similar to the Corsa Daytona system and the third is similar to the Tri-Flow Speedway tips but will be placed closer together then on the C5. Which fascia and which exhaust style will be used I am sure will not be determined until the week before GM unveils the car the 2004 International Auto Show opening here in Detroit."
I hesitated to post here, because I don't want to loose the source, but I know my fellow C6 addicts need this Info fix. IF I were the paranoid type I would point out that this could just be GM dis-information to promote doubt among us. But this guy gave us much more info than needed if that was the mission, IMO
