Hib, youmentioned the c4's weak structure , in what way and why were the 84 thru 86 the worst? Were they improved after that? Curious.

Ok....I understand that the LT5 camber brace is 205 bucks.

I take it the cross braces for the Coupe are 320 bucks plus 27.50 for shipping. Is that right?

What is a C4/C5 S/T Frame Support?

I also understand the actual change in ground clearance to be about 1.5-in. rather than 2.0-in. Have I got all this right?

Lastly, is there any place on the web where images show these crossbraces installed under a C4 coupe?

Hib,

You are correct on the pricing through December. Normal price on the Cross-frame is $399.99, the Camber-brace is $249.99, and the S/T Frame Support is $595.00.

I need to qualifiy those statements a bit....the 84-86 Coupes have the weakest structure amongst Coupes, however, C4 convertibles have the lowest overall stiffness of all C4s.

During the convertible development, GM devised some additional structural enhancements (other than the crossbraces) and they were, also, applied to the Coupes. Some of this was done in 1986 and the rest was done in 1987.

Interestingly, today, the crossbar's purpose is misunderstood. Most people think they stiffen the car's overall structure. In fact, they were added to solve a local vibration problem which affected the seats and the floorpan under the seats.

part of the problem here is people compare the factory convertible brace to the RD brace. The factory brace is a very thin, somewhat flimsy part... the RD part is heavy duty.

So in reference to my original question, it seems the harness cage and camber braces are the best solutions. If I installed both of those items, would the targa brace be necessary. I also did not understand about placing the car on three jack stands to install the targa truss.

It sounds like all the discussion has gotten you confused. Give me a call and maybe I can better explain the products and their funtion to you.

Does it work on an '84? They are stiff already. Sooooooooo.
thanks

Yes Tony, it does. We have special adapters to attach the Cross-frame to the 84's frame because it does not have the extra frame work like the later models do.
