i try to only drive my vette on sunny days just so i can have the roof out!!!
to me, and this is only me but i can really see a fiberglass with metal frame roof panel that only has one screw in each corner stoping that much flex? i mean if the roof panel was made of something more and had say 6 or 8 screws holding it in place, maybe? any body know what the crush lbs of our roffs are in a roll over???

THEY SELL THE "TARGA TRUSS" IN CHROME OR BLACK , BOLTS RIGHT IN WHERE THE TOP WOULD, LOOKS LIKE A ROLL BAR COST $400-500

Amazing what happens in an engineering sense when related to stability. You could put sheet metal screws in place and it would still be a stiffer, stouter ride due to the physics. Kinda like an egg shell.

Tig, I was an F-15 Mechanic in the Air Force, and we could not Jack the Aircraft with the engine bay doors open unless we installed the panel screws in the 4 corners to reduce airframe flex. A 50,000 lb jet and 4 tiny screws were required.

Wow, I went for a drive on Sunday and decided to take the top out. I was only the 3rd time I've done this since I've owned the car, and the 1st two were short little runs. I can not beleive the amount of flex with it removed. When I started driving I thought I had a tire going down because of the vibration, then I started to suspect that maybe, a tie rod or something in the front end was going. I pulled the car over and did an inspection to make sure that everything was good. I could literly see the entire front end torqing everytime I hit any kind of bump.

Flex You ain't got no Stink'n Flex!! Strap your Azz in this if you want to see Flex!!;LOL junk!!

I learned the hard way about driving with the top off!!! I took wifey to work one day and after I let her out of the car I decided to take the top off. I had to pull out and cross an intersection without a redlight. I did as usual and gave it some gas to beat the 3 lanes of traffic that were coming toward me.{my '86 is a Z51 and I knew that it could handle the turn} Well, I ended up sliding sideways across 3 lanes with cars coming up behind me and then it whipped back into a straight position. I bet the cars behind where thinking I was an a-hole in a Vette showing off. What they didn't know that I just had the crap scared out of me. I felt like I was in a Smokey and the Bandit movie!

and you think the power slide was from the roof being off?? well i am sure the roof being in may feel a little diff for hard driving but i still like it off. and i love doing brake stands in my vette!!!

THATS THE BEST WAY TO LEARN HOW TO HANDLE A C-4 ( WITH THE ROOF OFF ) THEN WHEN THE ROOFS ON YOU ARE AN EXPERT!!! RICK

I had one of those[with 4 cyl] I used for a parts runner when I was in the service station. One day making a parts run at about 80 mph , hit a little pot hole. Before that I didn't know that a car could walk like a dog. ;LOLIt was a bit scary, had to stand on the brakes to settle it down.
