I just bought a 99 Vette without the side molding. What is my best method to getting some molding put on? I checked at the dealership and it was $280 just for the parts....no paint! Anyone have any suggestions?

I just removed mine, they are black, off of a 99 with only 11k. Mid-America sells them for $250. You can have mine for $100 plus shipping. Re-install is very easy, did it for a friend. Go to Pep-boys, buy 3m double sided molding tape. Take pre-existing tape off and install new tape on moldings then apply to door. Prep the door with denatured alcohol, it leaves no residue. E-mail me at Don2@cox.net

Hey Pac-Man - I've got an 04 and was thinking of taking of the BSM. Can you provided some tips on the process.

Thanks

Pac-Man, I would also like to hear how you took them off. I want to get rid of mine too. Did you have any problems?

Removal is easy. Heat them with a hair dryer, then run fishing line underneath to separate glue from the door. Just pull them off easy. Clean up with 3m adhesive and label remover. Cleaning will take one hour, you have to use your fingers to rub the glue off but it's easy. Keep spraying the remover on. Finish the process with a hand compound, hand glaze, then wax. That will remove marks, if any. I used this same process to remove the deck emblem and nose emblem. Beware, removal of the nose emblem will leave two holes in the nose. My auto body owes me so that was'nt a problem, but you may just want to remove the deck one only, looks great.

I used to live in Lilburn. Actually my parents. I went to UGA and have been in the Air Force for 12 years. I'm trying to get stationed down at Warner Robins.

Is your car in the pict a hard top?

Yep, like CAVette said, its a hard top. All z06's are FRC's (Fixed roof coupes).
I went to UGA too! It was fun, wasn't it?
We have another member who is in the Air Force and stationed in Warner Robins. I think his handle is Geof180.... You'd rather live in Warner Robins than Las Vegas? I don't think there's much to do in Warner Robins (unless it has changed in the 25 years since I've been there :L )
Do your parents still live in Lilburn?

Tammy,
Warner Robins wouldn't be my first choice, but it would get me back on the east coast and I'd be flying. I've been stationed out west most of my career and I'm tired of my family not seeing my two little girls grow up.

My parents moved up to Lake Lanier. They used to live in Rivermist. I lived there on and off during the summers. I have to admit, I don't miss the humidity out there. The west coast has spoiled us in that way.

Sorry about the hard top question.....like my name says, this vette is my "first one".

Me too (liking the body side moldings). I have developed the habbit of checking the door panels on Black Corvettes for the door nicks that invariably happen. Black cars seem to attract door dings/nicks. My Yukon Denali has some tiny nicks - fortunately they are in the plastic cladding on the bottom of the doors where paint can fill the nick to the point where it can't be noticed. However, the nicks still happen. Therefore, the side moldings are on my Corvette.

What is the best way to line them up on the door? Is there a place to find the measurments or a template?

I would go to the nearest Chevy dealer with a tape measure and figure it out that way. Maybe there's an easier way. I know that the smaller pieces that go on the front fender were placed right in the middle of the vent. So, you could simply follow that line. BTW, the bsm's are marked L and R on the underneath. You'll see why when you get them. It has to do with the shape, they are not universal, you'll figure it out.

Amen (to Pac-man's tape measure suggestion). I saw one Corvette with BSMs installed after delivery - the molding was aligned almost to the door handle.... It looked so lame. If ever there was a reason not to install BSMs, that was it.

Why do you want to put those body bumpers on your Corvette?

Removing them was the first thing I did to my Z06 once I got it home.

Body Side Molding really gives the C5 a 3-D look. Wouldn't want one without it.

personally, think they look like crap

Agreed, they look like crap because they are stuck on and they look like they are stuck on. If you lower the ride height and remove the bsm's the beauty and the lines of the car really come out. The more things you stick on a car, you only ruin the lines. Ex., wings ruin the car
