I have a1993 with the Bose CD/cassette, etc. A short time ago I began receiving an ERR message and the EJECT function became much slower to eject the CD. I noticed today that it has failed to eject the CD at all and I consistently get an ERR message. I am sure that there is no simple fix other than some kind of rebuild. The radio and cassette operate as normal, but the last CD ("Best of the Beatles") is still "stuck in the CD player. Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

Bose CD Problem

We purchased a 1994 Coupe in April of this year and the CD player does not work in mine either. One of my fellow employees (I work at a Chev store) had a 1994 Convertible and his CD player didn't work either. My mechanic (who also works at the dealership) told me that the problem is quite common. I guess the engine somehow heats up and affects the CD player. I have a portable plugged into the cassette right now but have decided to have the system taken out this winter and refurbished and hopefully it will last for a while. It costs approximately $200 to $250 to send it out and have it redone. I don't want an aftermarket system in the car as I want to keep it original. Will let you know what happens.

Donna

P.S. You can take it to a Chevrolet dealership and the parts department will send it out for you.

I had mine rebuilt for the same problem. It works fine now...almost. Store bought CD are fine all the time, but if the car is hot (as in heat, not coolness) the CDs I made will not play. Let the car cool down, they play just fine. There are several good places to do a rebuild, just do a search for more info.

Mine also was re-done some time ago. Like new when I got it back. At the time it was $300+. I think MID America is having a special on rebuilds now...check it out. I think it's MADVET.COM.

My CD player has a hard time playing CDRs after about a hour or less in really hot weather. These machines really have their quirks.

I know that when the laser was dying on my CD player the CDR's would hardly work at all. Since I got the unit back, the CDR's work just fine. Of course the CDR technology has improved quite a bit from the first days of it's release. I remember having quite a bit of problems even on the home systems that were not yet compatible with CDR's. Since I did get the player back for "BOSE" (which by the way, are the only people that fix these things) it plays quite well!

I think mine may need a re-build too. I have similar problem, with some different symptoms.

The CD player seems to have to warm up before it will accept a CD. I get this "clack-clack-clack" noise. In order to get it to accept a CD, I have to turn the stereo off, insert the disc as far as it will go, and then turn the stereo back on. Eventually, I can get the player to accept a CD on its own, then the problem becomes getting it to read the CD. This is just a routine of ejecting and re-inserting the CD.

Like I said, it has all the symptoms of needing a rebuild. My concern about doing this is all the stuff I've read about these systems being designed to short themselves out if removed by someone.

The stereo is easily removed and unplugs from the back like any other unit. You just have to be careful taking apart some of the dash since a lot of it is flimsy. Don't force anything. Look for hidden screws.

thanks for all the imput

Thanks all for the advice and for sharing some of your experiences with your Bose system. Mine still continues to play really well; it is just the eject system that is fouled up. Good thing Bose doesn't make the system for ejecting from an F-18. Would someone share the process for removing the interior parts to get at the radio for removal. It doesn't look too complicated;however, I am reluctant to begin removing parts that may not need removal. I think I will be sending it to MAD for refurbishing as suggested. The price is $299.00, and seems fair for what is advertised in their service description. Thanks again all.
