The rear units are a slice...remoce the cover...remove associated hardware out it comes....the fronts are a bear as you practically have to dismantle the whole door...

To remove the front speakers, you have to remove the outer door panel obviously, 6 screws along the bottom, 1 on the edge of the door, two through the handle and one through the bezel. You may also have to remove the other bezel screws.

Pry off the door lock handle from the door lock rod, use a rag on the bezel to keep from scratching it. Then disconnect all of the wires behind the panel. Lift it up off the door and set it aside.

Now comes the inner door, there are 8-10 (can't remember) screws around the perimeter of the inner door that hold it to the door itself. You also have to disconnect the door lock rod at the rear of the inner door and pop it out of the guides on the back side of the inner door. There is a metal clamp that goes over the rod, spread it gently and pop it off the rod. You also have to disconnect the door handle rod, it uses a clip over the end of the rod that has to be removed first. Disconnect the wiring on the inner door, then lift it up to clear the large tab at the bottom center of the inner door, then drop the inner door down into the door until the top of the inner door clears the opening in the door.

Finally the speaker, there are four screws holding it to the door and the wiring connector. The speaker will only come out one way past the window regulator, I think it had to be rotated onto it's side rather than vertical as it is mounted.

I don't think I missed anything, it isn't terribly difficult, though a little time consuming.

MrsSchroder, I know what the red arrow is, but to the R of the red arrow, between that and the text ( by the way, how did you do that?) some posts including this one have what looks like a down pointing arrow or something. Does anyone else see these? Thanks

You mean the paper clip icon? It means there's an attachment inside the post.

To snap a screen shot press alt-print scrn. Then paste the image into something like paintbrush. edit out what you need, save it (usually to a jpeg works best because it has file compression). then upload it somewhere (you can even put it in an attachment like I'm doing this time) and then reference the url of the image using the IMG button. PM me if you need more help !

No prob, I don't know if everyone else hadn't done it themselves or just thought it was listed elsewhere. I just got done doing both doors. Replaced the speakers, the outer door seal, the door lock switches, the door ajar switch, and repairing the flimsy handle.

Check the output from the radio receiver

I have a 90 coupe and have been experiencing alot of the problems that have been discussed on this thread. Section 8A of the factory manual "Electrical Diagnosis" is invaluable here. It not only contains the electrical schematics but good troubleshooting procedures as well.

On mine there is a radio receiver that is a seperate box from the head unit. It is mounted behind the dash so dissasembly is required to reach it. This receives input from the head unit and provides the preamp outputs to each of the speaker/amp units.

The procedure specifies testing of the 12V source for the amps (pins A and F) from the relay that has been discussed elsewhere in this thread but also outlines testing the +/- preamp outputs (pins C and D) as well. According to the procedure, you shoud be seeing at around 1VAC at the connector if the preamp is working properly. I checked mine and the only speaker that was working at the time (left rear) and about 0.8V AC and the others had ~ .03VAC which is too low to to get any volume.

I went to my local dealer today and found that all of the parts have been discontinued but there is a GM/Delco service center that can refurbish the factory units for a fraction of the cost of buying a whole new system. I agree with the others that have pointed out that much better performance is available through the aftermarket but for me I enjoy making the original stuff work and the Bose is still a fairly decent system even if it doesn't light your hair on fire.

If you are interested in ressurecting your original equipment I hope this helps.

Check e-bay for parts. Sorry I just dug all my bose (junk) out and sold it on e-bay. The parts to repair mine were just to high needed 1 front amp and one rear. That was more money than I could justify. Regular speakers will not work it is very low input like from a preamp into the speakers. I wanted mine stock too but guess what I know have a killer system that works great. Even new the Bose was a lot lame and only got worse. Although it wasnt bad to listen to a am station or classical music. I should post a pic of my install it only took 2 days and a complete dissasembly of my interior but I put all the screws back in even the ones that where missing. Fixed alot of little rattles and squeaks. Only thing is you have to install 2 resistors to fix the LED & LCR lighting as the CCM misses them horribly and keeps reminding you but it is very easy to do. By the way no original wiring can be used. I did reuse the rear speaker boxes and that looks totally untouced. The front speakers take a little more thought, I ended up wth the speakers mounted to the kick panel and they fit and sound great. It took a lot of time to find speakers to fit I ended up with Kenwood speakers if you want the numbers let me know I have the boxes somewhere. The radio is a Pioneer mps-8400 and fits like a glove with the install kit that you can buy from a radio install place. I will try to post pics later today. You could do it quicker than I did I was chasing some other problems at the same time I put the radio in and had more apart than neccessary. If you have questions alot of us have answers. bose radio my two cents

Hey folks just thought i`d add my two cents on this. Just pulled radio out of my 90 coupe ...not so bad ..then I removed the cdm box.........Ha Ha Ha what a pain in the n..ts . What was the general thinking??? Lets see what the repair man has to say about it , then I can`t wait to put it back in.;
