Bose speakers dead

My 95 Bose speakers started cutting out, like a bad connection, last night. First only the rear, then the front intermittently. Today the head unit started to flake, power on, then off, loosing time and radio presets. Now the head unit appears stable but no sound, zero, not even static.
Opinions?

A really big hammer is the only fix for the Blose system !!
It will be cheaper to replace it with some good aftermarket stuff than to have it all rebuilt.
