My stock stereo was a non-bose reciever w/ tape. I don't care for the looks of a non-stock stereo, but I have to have a CD. Went to several stereo shops to see how to install a stereo in a 96. There is not a factory install kit that I can find for a 96 besides the wire adapters. The shop I picked said they could make a custom bracket and cover so my flip down would look pretty much stock or really cool. Was wondering what other people have done to thier stereos? I will post pics next week after install. also having all new speakers and an amp installed with a small woofer box, should make my brain bleed.

If you have the standard double din opening in the dash, you can get a double din head unit. No fabrication needed and they look good. If you are going to use a single din head unit, adapters are available from Scosche, Metra, Best Kits, etc.

Check this out, blow it up as file size must be small to post here. Panasonic hi-power CD into 2 pioneer amps driving 6 speakers plus big dual subs. Was in the car when I bought it, kid says close to 3 grand. Lifts the gas door almost straight up and thumps the whole car like you wouldn't believe. Not much storage room though...:_rock :beer

what does the head unit look like? I'm going for something a little more compact, lol...

I also have a non-Bose AM/FM/Cassette player in my 94. Does Pioneer offer an exact fit replacement with CD for the 94? I know they have head units for earlier C-4s

Yep stereo ROCKS! They do make an installation kit for a 94 - 96. My installer found it after hours of fabricating one. The kit lets you mount a double din and have a pocket under stereo or a little stash tray. I'll get the name of who makes it and post it. The only problem that I am having now besides hearing is that I keep getting a sys light. I am going to disconnect battery today and see if that will reset it. If that don't work, what are the resistor specs that I need for the stereo?

I have a Pioneer FHP-4400 CD stereo in my 94. It's a double din unit and it fits perfectly with no adapter or coverplate. It's a cool unit--lots of lights, buttons, functions--oh yea, it sounds good too; better than the Bose unit it replaced. I plan on getting an amp sometime this year so my stereo can compete with my exhaust.

Hotred 94; Do you have a photo of your radio install? We both have 94 dark red metallics and I would like to see your setup

Let me see if I can find a digital camera and I will glad to post some pics. :cool

There is a TSB about the SYS light coming on with 1990+ cars with an aftermarket stereo. It's due to the illumination circuit. You have to wire in 2 resistors to fix the problem. Do a search, there is info about it and some pics of the schematics.

Pre 1990 is a completely different sized hole in the dash. You can find a $5 adapter at Wal Mart for those cars. It's a DIN and a half sized.

1990+ is Double DIN sized...completely different.

Please post and let me know the source of the dash adapter for 1990+ , I'm looking for one for my 1992 coupe.

Thanks
Steve

dash adapter

The adapter posted previouse you will notice allows a regular head unit to be used and gives you a little cubby underneath for remote, cell phone, etc... The manufacturer of the adapter is called METRO.

My SYS light keeps flashing speratically, I read the posts about this problem. Is the wirring the same for a 96 and has anyone had this problem on a 96, I see it posted on mostly 80's models. Is the resistors the same?
