Brake caliper paint

I'm upgrading the brakes on my C5 and need advise on paint products. I want to use red paint on the calipers. Is regular engine paint ok and will it last?

Engine paint may work just fine, several other threads on the subject have indicated good results. Duplicolor markets a kit for calipers in 4 colors including red, for about $17 in case you haven't run onto that one.

There are paints that come with different temp ratings... You want to find one that is rated to 900 deg F. You will also want to prep the surface by brushing with a brass wire brush and finish off with a spray of Acetone or paint thiner... do not use carb cleaner or the like, as it does not evaporate completely... it leaves residue which will cause the paint you put on to bubble or flake off and or turn color.

I used the spray on caliper paint last weekend on mine. A little masking tape and large towel for the wheel well and they came out great. It's a high temp paint. Use simple green first to clean them then blow dry with air.

They'll look even better when my chrome rims get put on tomorrow

I used this from Eastwood and it did both the 76 and the 96 Impala SS

Another option would be to send them to me to have them power coated in whatever color you want. I do them for $45 ea. for CAC members. If you want to see pictures let me know.
