Brake Fluid Question

I'm in the process of flushing out the brake system after a complete system rebuild on my 72 Stingray (completely stock, GM Parts). What are your recommendations for brake fluid?

It's always a good thing to refill the system with brake fluid. Air brakes are for trucks, not cars.

Oh wait, I bet you were looking for recommendations on what type of fluid to use. :gap

If you've replaced/cleaned 100% of your system, you can use either DOT3/4 or DOT5. Flip a coin and choose one, there's no clear winner.

If you've not done a 100% complete job, then stick with DOT3/4 the two types are not compatible and intermixeable.

Not good for stock setup.

I use DOT4 (Castrol GT-LMA); MUCH easier/faster to bleed, doesn't entrain air like DOT5.

So, what's your real question then? If you don't like DOT5, then that pretty much leaves DOT3/4, either of which is more than good enough for street or track.

Been using DOT 5 for about 5 years without a problem. System must be drained and flushed. I used denatured alcohol followed by the brake fluid.

I really like the characteristics of Valvoline SynPower, sold at Advance Auto, Auto Zone, etc. It is a DOT 3/4 fluid and I am using it in my 72 and my new cars.

I have read some very good things about the Ford brake fluid on other boards from folks whose knowledge I trust. I am not sure if that is like putting a Baboon heart in a human though!

Obviously, a complete flush and purge is required. The archives are full of information about folks who are having trouble bleeding their systems. Do a search and find the various pitfalls and how others have overcome them.
