Brake Light Comes On

First of all I would like to say merry christmas to all

My Problem is

For the last couple weeks the brake light would come on then it would throw off the abs and asr (both service lights would come on) I just checked and the brake fluid was low, i orginally thought it was a bad sensor on the wheel. Would low fluid cause this to happen, I can't put brake fluid in the car until monday because i am not sure if my mechanic uses silicon fluid or not. Any help would be great. I would hope that your mechanic did not put silicon fluid in the car as DOT5 or silicon fluid does not work well with the ABS.

Yes, the 'BRAKE' light is designed to show that the parking brake is set as well as low brake fluid in the reservior.

Even a 1/4" low in the reservoir can cause the lights to come on. Your brakes will function, but you should get it topped off as soon as you can. You should also have your tech find out why the fluid is low. He should inspect the entire brake system for any indication of leaking.

If your has not had a brake fluid flush in the last few years, this is probably a good time to have that done in addition to the inspection. Your car uses DOT3 fluid and DOT4 will work as well; it takes about a quart to do a fluid flush.

DO NOT use a DOT5 silicone fluid!! :nono

thanks for your help, is there a such thing as silicone dot3, i went ahead in put in the regular dot3 i had and all seems well. thanks again,

DOT 4 is a bit more expensive and has a higher heat tolerance than DOT 3. Then, some brands also have higher heat tolerance, which can pay off in reduced water absorption in that hot environment.
